From outward appearances, it's probably blowback from open bolt?

By the way, I've always wondered - if they sold it without the stock could we load another 5 cartridges in?

P.S., sorry it's clearly not a new design, just new to me.

The gringo pages say this:

Also, in the FAQ :

"9.- Where can I find the HM-3-S semi-automatic submachine-gun?
This product’s is exclusively for our security squads, The Army, and The Navy; therefore, it’s sale is restricted."

It's more a MAC variant than an UZI
Actually it hasn't much in common at all with those to designs other than the fact the hm-3 uses a telescopic bolt and has a mag-well/pistol grip.

That appears to be a semi-automatic variant of the Mendoza design from Peru.
The barrel is actually a type of "spine" which receives (receiver?) all other parts.
And the "body work" which one would normally assume would be the receiver has no structural value at all and only serves to keep out dust and what not.

I believe that a draw back to the full auto smg version was the fact that the recoil spring is wrapped around the barrel and within the telescopic breach thus rapidly heating up and becoming soft and thus prone to failure.
Semi-auto wouldn't have this problem of course.
