Hey, all...

I'm having a heck of a time trying to find pieces for my SVT-40... Anyone know where I could find a place that sells a middle spring guide that doesn't charge $50 for shipping a $7 part? Preferably one based in Canada...

EDIT: Found it... I suggest anyone who field-strips these rifles invest in one of these:

:p :p
Anyways, the main question still stands... is there any local parts sources for these rifles

My whole garage floor is a magnet :) And it's full of stuff. I have spent many a merry hour looking for tiny bits and springs that sailed off in the most unlikely trajectories. A large floor painted white would be the answer.

A funny story regarding lost tiny pieces of milsurps lol

I stripped down the rear sight of a 1903 MK1 once to rebuild it/replace broken parts.

The drift pin that holds the two pieces of the sight slide ladder together is about 1/8 of an inch long and about half a millimeter thick.

I pulled it out with pliers and "PING" the pliers snapped shut and the pin disapeared into the ether, searched forever in my basement, couldn't find it.

I tore my basement apart last month to do a big renovation job, I'm tearing out a stud wall and the baseplate and lo and behold, there's the fackin' pin right there on the floor!.........

$30 in shipping from Numrich Gn Parts in the U.S. later though of course lolol

Invest in a magnet... a few magnets then rig it to a push broom. Then comb the floor. ;)

I would just call around to dealers who are known to be selling SVT-40s and ask if they have any parts. Only order from the States as a last viable option.

Loosely similar experience regarding stripping down your rifle for cleaning. One time I was stripping down my k98 for an inspection after it sat for two years. I remembered most of the take down procedure... except for dismantling the bolt. It might have been just the time of night, but I decided not to use the bolt take down disk on the stock. I managed to line up the lugs on the firing pin to correspond with the bolt sleeve. Turned the cocking piece, and *THUD! The firing pin flew six feed and imbedded itself 3/4" into my drywall.

I have a small tent I use sheep hunting. Zip it up and have at her. Flying parts are easy to find, unless you launch them through the tent wall.

LOL I know exactly what happened here. It took me two hours tearing apart my basement the first time I stripped mine. Eventually spotted in a tiny space in behind the gun cabinet which had to be emptied and unbolted from the wall. Glad it worked out for you.
