For all the Wholesale rants I read an enjoy I can't remember seeing one that deals with the otherside of the counter. I suspect there are WSS employees who post here but it's unlikely they'll admit to being one and then launch into a tiraid about how stupid the customer are so ...

Last year I was forced into hitting WSS on the my down South for ELK. Naturally the line at the guncounter was huge and slow moving. It seemed most of the customers simply wanted to tell someone that they own a 7mm and it'll kill anything that walks or in one case a guy had the counter staff go in the back room and get a T3 for him to "look at". Turns out he owned a T3 and was simply intrested in seeing if they are "consistant". finally there was only one guy between me and the price reduced ammo I'd heard about.

"Give me a box of 300 and a box of 300 mag!"
"300...Savage?"
"I said 300 and 300mag!"
He then turns to his buddy and explains:
"I'll use the 300 to sight in and the mag to hunt with!"
"What gun are you shooting sir?"
"My lever."
"And what is it chambered in?"
"It's a 300!"

At this point I was able to do my busines and leave so I don't know the conclusion.

I gotta wonder what I woudl have done if I was the clerk? Sell him some 300 Savage and 300RUM and snicker?:D

The guy doesnt' seem to be the type you could give advice to!:p

I have seen this on numerous occasions, while shopping or visiting. One time, a guy walks in and says he wants to buy a 223 for moose hunting. Then there was the time a fellow was asking about registering his hunting rifle and was speaking to one of the guys on staff who is a verifier.

Staff guy "What type of rifle is it?"

Customer "a 308"

Staff guy "Yes, I understand that the calibre is 308, but what type of action is it?"

Didn't you hear me, a 308.

Is it lever action, or bolt action?

ITS A 308!!!

Guy ended up bringing down a 30-30, model 94.

The guy who works at a gunstore is not an absolute expert, usually. Some of them might give you some good advice, but we have to remember that these guys are not professional hunters or gunsmiths, they are sales clerks. Cut them some slack.

I worked in retail as a commercial meat cutter from 1978-2002.

I'd love to get the guy that said, "The customer is ALWAYS right".

.

I have dealt with the Edmonton store. They have their good guys and average guys. I have generally been happy with them and only on a couple occasions have left unhappy. But not enough to not shop there. Their internet site is ok but I will Never NEVER EVER buy anything again from it. What a fawking joke. It is great to research guns and ammo for availabilty and prices.

It depends on one's luck. While waiting at the counter I was praying that a certain gentleman working for WSS will take my number, and be done with the whole thing in 2 minutes. It turned out one of the representatives that came down just as an "expert" for the opening day....took me. He knew nothing about the store, not even where the guns in the back were. It took me 54 minutes to buy the Savage. My 5% early bird discount was expired for 15 minutes at that time. The guy really tried hard to help me and when he came from the back, he had the biggest smile I've seen that week. Was it his fault? I think just bad luck... I rarely happen to walk into a store and find all I neeed, so in time I got used to it.
BTW... they honored that 5% even though the time was past. If only they had more sales like this....

My favourite question from a goof when I worked at WSS Calgary. I was but a witness...

Goof - "Would one of these pellet guns look real if I stuck it in someone's face?"

Rick - "Get out."

My second...

Goof - "What do you know about paintball?"

Rick - "I know that some people like to get dressed up and run around shooting each other."

Just remember...not every customer is a genius...but lots of them know everything.

I'v worked retail for 23 years. My own belief is that "The customer is frequently wrong." :) Having said that, I still believe in giving the best service I can. My business depends on it. But it's also fair to say that as a union job, with workplace violence and harassment an issue, neither I nor my staff have to put up with any crap. You will treat me and my staff with respect, or you will leave. And if I fail to treat you with respect, I can expect to answer for it to my bosses. It's a two way street.
I'm a bit of a musician too, and there's a parallel here with Wholesale and with several music stores I can name. You walk in, the staff are all "cooler than thou" and either ignore you, diss you, or try to sell you something you don't need. When I find a staff member who actually listens to me, then tries to help me, I make it a point to go back to him, and I tell his bosses how impressed I am with his or her service. Reward good service by shopping there again, and correct poor service by complaining (calmly and respectfully) to the manager/owner. Unfortunately, most customers leave without saying why they're unhappy, which means the manager has no idea there's anything wrong. How can anything change under these circumstances?

Morons who bring in loaded guns and slide them out of the case with thier finger on the trigger at the counter.
Guys that argue with thier wives over a gun purchase at the counter.
Idiots who only come into the gunstore to ask loaded questions to try and make himself look smart to his idiot friend that lives in the adjacent trailer at the trailer park.
Flakes that will interupt a Clerk while he is dealing with a customer to offer his stupid, unqualified and unasked for opinion.
Dumbass Parents that bring children into a gunstore to run amok and break #### while they ignore them until they start crying and then tell them to shutup or they can wait in the car!
Fools who try to buy a gun without a firearms license.
Tools who feel the need to complain about the Government, Bill C-68, Gun control or Taxes and want to debate with the clerk about it.
Dolts who think that thier Cooey Single 12 is worth $400.00 cuz it's real old.
I love my job... come on in and talk to me anytime... I am here to serve you... I'm serious.

You forgot dip$hits who feel it necessary to dress up in their camo garb just to visit the store or go to a gunshow....during the off-season.

Loosers who must talk louder than necessary and look over their shoulder to make sure they have everyone's attention.

And yet some of those difficult customers spend a lot of money and as a business owner I tend to tolerate a lot of crap and difficult customers because I still want to make the sale. To clarify though...I won't tolerate outright rude, abusive and offensive (swearing and yelling) customers, especially to my staff. My ability to take crap is fairly high (maybe my past life as a LEO prepared me for that). Since we have been in business we have only asked two people to leave the store (not counting the thieves who we have fought with and chased down the street to arrest). Phil.
