The 1710 HB weighs close to 8lbs so is considerably heavier than the 6.2lbs of the CZ American. Both rifles are well balanced so hold well with the 1710 sitting better in bags because the forestock is a bit wider. Nice factory trigger on the Annie, although it could be a tad lighter. CZ triggers generally have lots of creep ... and I have never had one adjust to much less than 4lbs without taking them to a gunsmith. After some work by a gunsmith, my CZ American trigger is the way I like 'em ...breaks clean @ 2 1/2lbs.
This Annie is definitely well built with good attention to detail. Nice wood come standard with this one! Given the early group performance in cold weather with cheap ammo ...I will be surprised if the Annie will not consistently yield groups under 0.25 @ 50M. I purchased it from North Silva Company in Toronto. A friend bought the same model from Wholesale Sports here in Edmonton and paid more than it cost me (including shipping).
The American is a great buy for a moderately priced rifle. I bought mine in 2002 for about $425.00 and spent some more on the trigger. The wood is nice, but not as nice as the Annie. I've shot lots of 0.5" groups @ 50M and regularly take 80% of gophers out to 100M so I can say it shoots better than most. The action is easily as smooth as the Annie.
I also purhased a CZ Varmint 17 HMR last fall and after having the trigger "worked" by a smith... and trying several brands of ammo ... have it shooting groups that average 0.41" @ 50M. I never had much opportunity to shoot groups @ 100M because winter arrived ... and only had it out for gophers once... It was deadly out to 100M with some wind, but after that, the wind really affected the 17 HMR. Guess I'll get better with some practice in the wind!
