Has anyone had any issues with the long 5 shot magazines for the Anschutz 64 silhouette rifle?

Bought 3 and I found the first three rounds load easily when attempting to load the fourth round it is hard to load.

Sometimes the last round wont come up high enough to feed into the gun.

Do they just need to be used more to break them in?
Thanks
Al

What ammo are you using? This can sometimes be the issue.

I do not own a repeater Anschutz. But in my repeater CZ'z (452 and 455), all CCI ammo will tend to misfeed on the 5th round. Rounds 1 to 4 feed fine. The 5th angles up into the top of the barrel and gets stuck, missing the chamber. This happens in all the several polymer magazines I own, so its not just one bad magazine.

However all the European ammo I have used: Lapua, SK and Eley all feed and chamber fine, no issues with the 5th round FTF.

My conclusion (hypothesis) is that there is something different with the CCI ammo, possibly the brass shape, that my CZ's don't like, and maybe CZ's are designed for the European ammo?

I used Eley Lapua and Federal.

I loaded and unloaded each of the mags about 20+ times last night, and they seem to be working but a trip to the range will tell if they are working properly.

You shouldn't have to work on new mags to get them to function properly.

Can you add lube to the mags if it's OK what can you use?

You are right. You should not have to mess with Anschutz magazines.

I am not familiar with those mags for that 64 Silhouette. If the feed lips and front slot are steel, then maybe there is a burr edge that needs filing or something - should have been QC'd at the factory, but stuff happens.

Regarding lube in the mag: No. Rimfire rounds are already lubed. Brass also has natural lubricity and does not need lube to feed through a mag. Extra lube would accumulate and attract grit and dirt which could really cause more troubles. Everything I have read says keep the mags inside clean and dry.

It pays to periodically disassemble rimfire mags and clean out the lube and dirt inside, leaving it clean and dry as possible.

I agree with you lube will attract dirt and cause malfunctions in the future.
i loaded and unloaded each mag about 10+ times tonight and now they seem to be working fine.
Anyone have any spare mags they want to part with?

Hi, the problem could be the follower. I had that problem with my new 10 anschutz mags. Take the mag apart and clean and lightly wipe with oil , take the plastic follower and sand "400 grit'' lightly the edges of the follower. The spring is quite stiff in a new mag, so when not in use I load the mag with dummy rounds . The thing with Anschutz is they make everything with tight tolerances and it takes repeated useage to get their parts to loosen up.
