So I have an Anschutz 1903 MSR it has a match 64 action. The problem I have is that it is not reliably ejecting the spent casing. It does it to me like 1 in 5 rounds. Is there a DIY fix for this, or does it need to go to a gunsmith. It is still relatively new with maybe 750 rounds through it. It has done this since new and I thought it was a break in period but it is just getting annoying now. Thought about posting in the Gunsmith section but though you guys might have advice.

This is a common 64 action issue. I bought an extra extractor from Nordic Marksman. I was going to file the OE one and if I messed up, I would have the spare.

One day I went to the range and forgot my mags, I was mad. Had to feed it one at a time which turned out to be a lot better than I thought. When extracted it would either flick off to the right or just fall through the magwell. Since then I haven't used the mags.

If you don't want to make any changes to the gun yourself Contact Henry Rempel in Langdon. He is an excellent rimfire gunsmith and should be able to fix your issue.

Yes same issue affects some 54 actions. Most info about issues and remedies as already stated is
over on rimfire central.

So it seem that the situation when from bad to worst. I have shimmed it with tinfoil and back and more and it doesn’t make any difference.
I think I am going to buy new ejector clips and see if that helps.

Had some Anschutz 64 bolts where the extractor and retainers position were reversed by someone in the past. 3 &3A.

Warning, this drawing is not accurate. see link. 90 degree extractor on right as seen from above bolt. triangular tip retainer on left.

Did you file down the extractor grips at all? I seen that as a fix on RFC but not shims. You want slightly more space between the bolt face and the extractor grips but must only do a little bit at a a time

The ejector clips?

The extractor grips the rim and withdraws the casing from the chamber. As the bolt slides back, it goes over the ejector, which forces the spent casing to "eject" or disengage from the bolt.

Below on the left is a 64 action ejector. On the right is a 54 action ejector.

Below is the bottom view of a Match 54 single shot bolt with a spent casing. The extractor is on the left (on the right when looking from the top). On the single shot rifles, perhaps also on the 64's (I don't have one at the moment), the bolt slides over the ejector, which is in the groove in the middle. As the bolt completes passing the ejector as it's pulled back, the ejector "pushes" the casing away from the extractor and retainer.
