Purchased a couple extra barrels for my 1761 on the Black Friday sale Nordic Marksman recently had.
Did the barrel swap yesterday (nervously) as was not exactly sure what to expect as heard stories that it should be completed by a gunsmith?
The original barrel was a 17 Mach2 so decided to install the 22LR first as wanted to compare the headspace on both of them to ensure there would be no surprises in that area.
The measurements were bang on for the 22LR @ .043 headspace and surprisingly high for the Mach2 @ .049"
The barrel swap was easier than anticipated and will say when I go to install the 17 HMR should be able to do so in ~ 5 minutes.
I have measured the shank length of the HMR barrel and headspace is bang on @ .050" as recommended from the information I could find on Rimfire Central.com so just a matter of removing and re-installing.....EZPZ:cool:
Was a beautiful day here with no wind, just a tad on the crisp side so decided to take her out to see how the new barrel would perform - here are the results:

Best to worst gopher ammo: Average of 2 x 5 shot groups @ 53 yards (sort of)

Eley High Velocity = .329”

Federal Black Box = .358”

American Eagle 38 gr. = .420”

CCI Velocitor = .444”

Federal Auto Match = .478”

Federal Hunter Match = .493”

Federal H.V. Match = .505”

American Eagle 40 gr. = .609”

Aguila 38 gr. = .630”

Federal Blue Box Value Pack = .665”

CCI Mini Mag 36 gr. = .686”

Yellow Jackets = .689”

Hornady 40 gr. = .779”

Best to worst Match Ammo: Average of 2 x 5 shot groups @ 53 yards

SK Red Box = .312”

Sk Yellow Box = .378”

Lapua Center X = .433”

CCI Standar Velocity = .557”

This barrel is certainly a tight chamber as lots of the ammo was harder to chamber than normal!

Note to the (sort of): The group numbers are a little exaggerated as first group for each new ammo tested - if there was a flier I did not include as felt a buffer was needed to condition the barrel for each new ammo tested, I then averaged the two groups.

Most accurate 22LR I presently own for sure:d
