Hey, lots of you guys have now bought the MP R, and seem to love them....

I'm just wondering about barrel length- they're 25 or 26" are they not?

I suppose it depends partly on your use, but I wanted to hear if anyone would prefer a bit shorter barrel on that platform? ie like the 18" barrel on the 1416 Classic.
Thoughts, opinions?

The 1416 and the MP R are two very different rifles. Not only is it longer, the MP R is heavier (and much better off the bench). If you want a shorter heavy-barrelled 64 action, you might look at the 64 MS R. Nordic Marksman has them.

The MPR is a large heavy target 22.I couldn't imagine shooting it off hand. I bought it specifically for bench use and it shines at that. If you're shooting off hand you want the MSR designed for silhouette use.

I just got a 1416 classic a few months ago. I use it for hunting.... Have shot some grouse with it. I have given up on 26" barrels in the field as of recently because I find them cumbersome and most of my hunting is at very close range. I debated getting the MPR but I'm glad I didn't because even the classic is heavy compared to most 22s I have used. It is deadly accurate and I don't think you could go wrong with one unless your doing your shooting off a bench all the time, then the MPR would be better suited.
