Wondering if anyone is using an ARCA Rail that attaches to an Anschutz rail (ie on the bottom of a McMillan A5) and if so what brand and where to find one in Canada?

I am curious to hear if they mount up nice and tight, enough to reliably hold a 20lb rifle on a tripod.

Thanks for any help.

RRS makes one but it is just a short rail to mount in one location, which doesn't exactly make use of the benefit of ARCA. However, I suppose you can also just get any quality ARCA rail and have the proper T-slot nuts that fit in an UIT/Anschütz rail. Apparently McMillan uses slightly different spec so YMMV.

On a tripod, you might consider a stock clamp solution as well.

Through from Google searching, there is this option (bottom of drop down is Anschütz adapter)

Thank you for your replies, much appreciated.

Ack on the short rail and loss of benefit; as well as the stock clamp option, but I'm looking at having one adjustable ARCA mount point and I'm not too concerned about the loss of benefit of a full length rail... yet, hehe.

Cheers.

McMillan uses Freeland rails unless you specifically order an Anschutz rail.

There's a difference and it's not a good one if you want to use Anschutz spec'd accessories.

The width of the opening on the Freeland rail is slightly narrower than the Anschutz.

Freeland is .335" inside edge to inside edge of opening.
Anschutz is .380"

As a result, most Anschutz rail accessories will not fit on a Freeland spec'd rail. However, Freeland spec accessories will work with the Anschutz rail.

If you have the Freeland rail and want to use Anschutz rail accessories you really have three choices,
1) file down the accessory / mounting bracket to fit
2) Open (widen) the rail slot up with an end mill.
3) replace the rail with an Anschutz spec'd rail.

There is a fourth option depending on what accessory you want and who makes it: Order accessories that fit a Freeland spec.

If you cannot find anything ready made on the web I am sure Henry Rempel in Calgary could make you an adapter if you supply him with your ARCA rail.

I had Anschutz rails in 3 of my stocks. I replaced them with Area419 14" universal ARCA rails, the Anschutz screw holes lined up nicely. I just removed the Anschutz rail and used the screw holes for the ARCA, I only had to install 1 additional T-nut to have 5 screws holding on the ARCA rail. All are heavy PRS rifles, no issues with clamping to tripods, bipods or cheater plates.

We use modified t-nuts to mount most ARCA Rails including our own to Anschutz and /or Freeland Rails without removing the rail so as to be able to use a Pic Rail such as an Atlas Bt17 / adapter as well
