Antelope hunting in Wyoming

I haven't been back in several years, but when I used to go to Wyoming for guided antelope hunts, by the time you factored in everything...lodging, meals, etc...the guided hunts were as cheap as or cheaper than DIY...and insanely cheaper than hunting in Alberta.

Really fun hunts, very casual and low-pressure, best enjoyed with a group. If you feel that every guided hunt must be a grim-jawed, white-knuckled, B&C-animal-or-bust kind of affair...maybe not. For a fun hunt, lots of laughs, lots of animals, lots of stalks...antelope in Wyoming, or Montana, can't be beat.

jjohnwm, thanks for the advice. Yup done my share of do or die type hunts and couldn't agree more, this one will be all about spending time with friends and enjoying the ride. Booked in with Table Mountain in Wyoming and looking forward to it!

Thanks to all who provided advice/experience on this one!

Hi
It’s been appx five years since I’ve been to Wyoming
Had no problem with the meat the place we went to processed and froze all the meat, we had the skulls cleaned and the hides tanned they were shipped the to us after a couple of months
The name of the outfit was Bear Track Outfitters out of Buffalo Wyoming
I think they’ve changed owners take a look the best time for the goats is the first week of October
I hope this helps
Frank

Pulled my Nr Alberta tag this year. It was very short and fun. Unfortunately I far from scratched the itch. I’m now booked in Montana for 2024 with an outfitter for half the price of an outfitted Alberta hunt. The last 2 years the Montana outfit has done great so I’m hoping it stays that way….F7C2E1FB-6758-486C-B723-3291675A3A6B.jpg

Going to Crow rez Montana. Sounds like they manage their antelope well. Outfitter is a a young fella with a good list of references. 5 bucks this season 80+. $2k US no lodging/food.

Outstanding! Great antelope, great pic...I love those little warty "points" on both horns. Very cool.

Pretty sad when we, as Canadians, with antelope in our back yard...can go to a foreign country, enjoy better weather, see way more animals, expect a higher success ratio...and pay much less than we would if we stayed home to hunt. But I suppose the fact that when there are herds of antelope grazing alongside the roads in places, the high availability drives the price down. Up here...well, how long did it take you to get drawn for a tag at home?

Yup 12/13 years right now in Alberta , with point creep it’ll probably be 15 plus my next time to draw. They say there’s more antelope in Wyoming than ppl so in that way I do get it. Crazy to think we can go on guided hunt south for half the price though or New Mexico for the same price….

Does Wyoming still have super cheap doe tags for non residents? Iirc was like $40, but that was pre-covid and the weather has been pretty brutal for the last few years.

One time , on a trip to bring a drilling rig back to AB, I had the opportunity to drive the full distance of the east plains of Wyoming during daylight hrs only and man I never kept a running total but we must have passed 5000 head that we could see from the road that day alone.....they aint "extinct" by any means.

I’m just getting into the states draws, Montana, Wyoming, utah , New Mexico but the last 2 years they’ve cut draw numbers in Wyoming drastically due to tough winters and hits to population.

Oh good, I’ve only 5-ish years to go.
