You're sure that's not a reproduction? That looks far too clean to be antique. Are there any markings, stamps or names on it?

Without better photos of the markings. My best guest is that it looks like a Turkish/Middle eastern pistol.

It appears that someone has remove all the patina off the pistol... Maybe Turkish Eastern influence and the French were in these regions and may have ended up in France...

The hard part, if you cannot prove that it was made before 1898 it is not an antique and would be restricted or prohibited, which cannot be transferred now.

It definitely looks too new to be an unmolested antique. Maybe it was restored / refinished. Without markings it would be difficult to say where it came from or what it is worth. The style is perhaps a Spanish miquelet or middle eastern. See if you can find any identifying marks. The value could be a few dollars (literally) to a few hundred, maybe thousands. I hope this helps.

Looks French to me -similar to a smaller one I have. The barrel style matches and the lock is not miquelette style -sorry Chris- . Suggest late 1700's style . If it is an original that has been restored probably in the $1300- range. If modern made - no value other than parts.

Carefully removing the entire lock and attaching a pic of the backside and the wood interior will give-up a lot of information.

try removing the barrel and go over part of the bottom of the barrel with abrasive tape then rub on some copper sulphate, if you can find some. If the metal is blotchy, it could be wrought iron and antique. The status of the barrel is what is important because that is what is considered the frame or receiver. The lack of patina on the brass makes me think the stock is modern

You are quite correct. The lock is wrong for a miquelet. Listen to this man - he knows flintlocks better than I ever will...
