Heres one for you rich guys its at $18900 US and the reserve aint met!
Its on Gun Broker i never seen a Antique pistol go this high!
I think its a Perscribed Antique in Canada to as hes allowing International Bids.
Anyone here know the year these came out?

If I recall, ALL Borchardts meet the antique requirement. In 1898 the Luger supplanted it and I think they are all 1897 or earlier.

I'd LOVE to have one - it's a dream of mine that will never come true :( Prettiest and most finely made pistol ever produced.

Huh Well thats intresting all Antique eh.

Pretty isnt the word that comes to mind for me but im more of a revolver type of person i guess ;)

I agree it would made a good club when it jams tho LOL

LOL true enough i will say if they were under $2000 id still want one!

there very interesting looking id never noticed one before or that they were Antique!
I thought the cone ring Mausers were the main semi auto antique pistols.
and them bergmans.

Hugo Borchardt worked for the Sharps Co. just before they went belly up, they scrapped plans for producing the 1875sharps and instead produced the '78 which was designed by Borchardt, it wasn't real popular at first, most didn't like the fact that it didn't have an external hammer. Sharps went under anyways, and Borchardt went to Europe and developed the semi on this thread but, you can see his influence in alot of designs both here and Eu.....the Win. toggle bolts on the '73,'76, the toggle on the Luger, etc.

Very Interesting Piece!

The rise in price here illustrates one phenomenon of gun collecting I have observed and at times participated in..a firearm or firearms of great collector value and historical significance will languish "unwanted" in a gun shop or indeed out in the open market with "no takers" for some time.THEN it will skyrocket in price and value and continue doing so.
The Luger predecssor is a case in point. Without consulting research as I recall Kaiser Wilhem had one of these Borchardts with a shoulder stock for hunting as his one arm was crippled. from his interest and its appearance the 1902 Luger emerged..still a timeless design today.
In the 1950's very few people collected firearms. I still recall the factory cased Winchester 1873 in 44-40 with its special half round half octagon barrel in 'as new condition" that I bid on at a Peterboro Auction in 1956. I ran of of $$ at $27.00. It sold for $32.00.
How much is it worth now eh?

About 20 years ago I viewed once or twice a year a mint 1971 Rem 40 XB with a 16X scope in 25'06 calibre hanging up in a Peterboro Gunshop. NOBODY wanted it for its starting price of $600.00..two years later it was still there..so I bought it for $400.00. I was the only person to make an offer on it in the two years it stayed there.

However on a subsequent visit I was informed that a "lot of people wished they had bought it"..

How much is it worth now with its Remington Custom shop test target and Hart stainless barrel? It turned out to be a superb shooter at 600 metres in F Class DCRA Matches with the MPRA.

The previous owner fired very few shots from it and none over a distance of 100 yards.

About ten years or more ago Lever Arms in Vancouver was "giving away" Garand rifles for $125.00 apiece. They sold slowly. Most were NRA VG or Excellent Danish issue. People said they were heavy and used that en bloc clip so why "Rush"..

How much are those Garands worth now? LOL.

"Gather ye rosebuds while ye may!". Even at $18,000 that Borchardt may be a "keeper" .

My "take" on some current CGN offerings are in the same perspective. A WWI original S&W MkII .455 Hand Ejector with a signed holster sells for $500 or so.
Or how about those Long Branch No 4 MK I* for $400 or so.

This just in! The Toronto Long Branch Plant is Closed Forever! Like decades ago!

In 1956 Dit Clappers Sports Store on George Street had three Synder Enfilelds for sale at $25.00 apiece. Dit Clapper said to me once as I looked at them for the umpteenth time, "I cant give those away!".
They eventually sold for $15.00 apiece as Dit Clapper didnt want them around taking up space.
Again x 3, "How much are they worth now?"
