Yes i agree with you burnt_ servo but mooncoon is also right Judges always side with the crown for the most part thats why we need lawyers some people make all the lawyer jokes they want but when you need one be glad to have a good one!
But that said heres some facts i was privy to right as the amemdement happened.
Fact RCMP has been and has deregistered SAA colts in Canada that were REGISTERED RESTRICTED 45 COLT or 44 40 handguns once they were changed into OK calibers like 44 Sp 44 Russian 38 Special 45 ACP ect Ect alot of theses are MODERN Cartridges and they did this for 10 years or more.
They did this for years for me and lots of other people with no issiues or complaints.
Fact the guns Frame is whats registered not its parts and in the case of a SAA colt the Cylinder and barrel decide the Caliber cartridge it carrys.
some of the Tecs were Lost when i asked half a dozen questions on this amendment. I said OK what if i just buy a frame and theres no way to tell what caliber cartridge it was ? well we will grant antique Status in that Case. Then a few months later that changed again.
they made concessions in a few cases right at the start but then the i want pictures started if the barrels said frontier six shooter they knew the guns were 44 40 they looked for cal markings on the trigger gards or barrels side. it was like a switch went off in there department.
I do not request letters with the guns serial number anymore , unless i have to.
Someone there at the RCMP didnt like the deregistration of guns imported as restricteds then deregistered in Canada.
Thats what started this they were flooded with deregistrations the uper staff took notice then they made up the amendment.
i always imported guns as Antique not restricteds but i did deregister a few guns in Canada but that was years ago.
