was wondering if anyone knows how the perc. nipples were made way back around 1860. there seems to be no information on this subject on the internet. it seems it would be a pretty elaborate process back then. would appreciate any info on this. thanks

No doubt lathe and mill, most likely designed, manufactured and with jigs for the specific jobs.
Mechanization came early to firearms manufacture. In the 1820s, US M1816 musket stocks were being made on automated carving copying machines, and the barrels were being automatically profiled.

Also known as the Blanchard lathe - it was the basis for the little key copying machines we have today....
Thomas Blanchard also invented many other methods for gun manufacturing and high volume production - Google will tell you more.

Edit: I did have a paper article on later percussion rifle manufacturing (Springfield Armouries I seem to recall); I remember it mentioning that production of threaded nipples was achieved through a two step die-punch (using a hollow steel rod) then threaded, and finally heat treated.

Nipples could certainly have been forged/blanked out. Maybe the tapered hole could have been formed as well.
