Antique Pistol - Legal Question

you have a bigger issue here .... avoid that gun , they are fragile and unreliable .....

as for the legal stuff , it will tell you what you can't do..... everything else is lawful . it seems your looking for permission of sorts here.

on your person unloaded is your best bet ... if on your atv it would need to be treated like restricted being transported . you can not legally hunt with it in bc . target shooting where it is safe and legal to discharge a nonrestricted is good to go

carry a copy of the regs and the frt for the gun in question...

and keep it out of sight and your mouth shut about it
 
I carry a S&W in .44 Russian. In a ziploc baggie, I have the RCMP letter verifying antique status and a high-lighted copy of the regulations surrounding antiques, including open carry. Though I've never had any interactions with LEO's thus far, I hope that should one occur I end up with an intelligent and reasonable officer. As is mentioned previously, it's a crap shoot.
 
btw always use the term " nonfirearm " when talking to police / conservation .... i have had a few " meetings " with them , using this term forces a readjustment in their perspective, especially when shown the regs

Yea..was showing some of my Antiques to gun club members and explaining shooting anywhere can shoot non restricted, after done a bystander came over and told me if he seen me shooting a pistol at the gravel pit he'd arrest me... asked what his dog was in this case, and informed me he was Conservation Officer....So my reply was i know you don't believe me, so research it, and inform your fellow Officers about the regs. concerning antique hand guns and we will avoid a lot of problems...never did hear any more from him...
 
If you are operating a motor vehicle (ATV) it is my understanding at that point you would be transporting your antique handgun because it is not legal to hunt with your antique at least in BC. So transport regulations would apply, locked box etc if you are off the ATV you are then "target" shooting as again you cannot hunt with the antique.
