Hi gang, I have been away for a while and have recently rejoined and I am interested in the offerings from Antler arms , specifically the mountain or mountain ti. I realize they used to manufacture the Fierce rifles but are now Antler. Looking for something with a bit of reach out to 400yards or so with Moose, deer and bears in mind primarily for Ontario. Calibre considerations are 6.5 prc , 308, 28 nosler, 7-08 and 280 AI although I don’t believe they offer the 7-08 or the Ackley.
I currently have a Ruger #1 in 45-70 for “ close “ distance and a Kimber 84M in 257 Roberts for mid range deer and Bear but not my first choice for moose. For those of you who use an Antler platform how do you like it?
Also interested in the Barrett fieldcraft and the Christensen arms ridge line fft but not sure how I feel about carbon wrapped barrels as I have read both great things and not so great things about them, lol.
Anyway I appreciate any feedback you guys and gals can provide.

Thank you gang.

John

400 yard shots I'd consider stepping up to something in a magnum.

I'm sure others 243win with the proper bullet would suffice.......................

Have a look at the 7mm PRC, has three good factory ammo offerings, the 160gr CX bullet would be a great all round hunting bullet for what your looking for.

Im sure there will be several more factory ammo offerings this year, Federal etc

Thanks guys, 400 would probably be the maximum and other than my Sako.22mag I have never been a magnum guy. The ballistics on the 7prc are impressive and I have been reading about it so I could consider this chambering as well.

Wow no 30-06, 7rem mag or 300 win mag? These would be my choices I think! For 400 yards and in, for all those game animals it would work just fine!

I have an Antler Wild Mountain in 7mm PRC with the Mountain LR stock. It has been very accurate for me with both factory ammo and Barnes LRX handloads. The cosmetic finish of the stock is a little disappointing for the price maybe (visible deformed outer CF weave pattern in a few spots along the edge and some exposed foam in the cheek cutout that would've been easy for them to fix before leaving the factory) but that's about my only complaint. The fit is perfect and the action and barrel are flawless.

This rifle basically checked all the boxes for me. Detachable mag, 20 MOA integral rail, made in Canada, loads of options, and available when rifles chambered in 7PRC were harder to come by.

The people there are also very pleasant and responsive to deal with. The purchase experience and pricing is sort of halfway between buying something off the shelf and going full custom I guess. There are a lot of options. I had an issue with the magazines not feeding reliably under certain conditions and they were very quick to get it corrected.

I'd buy another rifle from them. If I had this purchase to do over I wouldn't change anything either.

As far as cartridges go for your stated use and what they offer, I'd be looking at 7RM, 7PRC, 28 Nosler, 300WM, or 300PRC. Any of those would do the trick. 7PRC is the right answer though :d

Thanks Jon87, that’s great info. All the calibres you mentioned will certainly do the job and then some . I am intrigued with the 28 Nos and the 7prc . Much appreciated Sir.

Thanks hunter, I have been researching them as well and have been window shopping at Prophet River.

I had a twisted rival in 6.5 PRC and it was awesome. Weight was nice, not too heavy not too light, shot great. Wish I woulda never sold it. I’ve been seriously debating picking up another on.

When I inquired, the base price of a rifle was around three times higher than the brands the OP listed in post #1.
Hmmm you are right, at $9500 it’s a lot more! But this ain’t a Remington/sako clone… not that it matters! I just like the look and the way they build them! My dad had a fierce edge and I don’t care for that style stock, vertical pistol like grip, long forehand stock etc just not my thing!
Anyway, it was just a suggestion.

Sorry, wasn't aiming to take a dig at you. I like them (and other CRF actions) over the sako clones. Just a bit pricey that's all.
