Antler clean up

Not sure where to post this thread, but...


I picked up a Caribou antler shed. Little bit of mouse damage, but nothing too severe. The side that was laying on the ground is greenish and dirty. Whats the best way to clean it up without damaging it?

What will you do with the antlers? Knife/pistol scales or knife handle? Idon't know about the clean-up but what about hydrogen perroxide or plain old Javex bleach? That should remove mold.

Be careful with the bleach, just try on a very small area. I tried it on a skull once and it turned it very yellow and some of it broke down to powder!

I'd talk to a local taxidermist if at all possible.

I know they use stains similar to wood stains to recolor them and I have had some luck with this metheod.

Be sure to update us when you find something.

Anymore, I just leave them the way I find them, they are unique in their own way.
