No one in our group got drawn for the "doe" tag. My dad told me that some other hunter he knows told him that the gov didn't issue any for this season. This would be due to the last winter we got. Is there any truth to this? We are in zone 10 west, if that matters...

Humm, I guess it was just a rumor then. I don't know if they have given out a smaller number out than the previous year though. It would of been a logical step to give the deer a chance to recover a little. Among our hunting party, we had already debated if we were going to try to fill our tags if any of us actually got them...

Everyone in my group(6guys) got one again this yr :dancingbanana:

Your zone did not have to many permits available, especially if your in 10 east. Check this site, it has all the info.

I'm lucky, my group was entered in this new draw in zone 5 West..
"1ST KILLING ANTLERLESS DEER HUNTING LICENCES (DOUBLE HARVEST) IN THE MONTÉRÉGIE REGION, 2008 SEASON"

IIRC zone 10 had an extra helping for anter-less last year and the year before, they probably figured they had culled enough and are slowing things down a bit to let the population recover.

Last yr. we all had the chance to take 2 deer ( The first one had to be a doe) and for at least 5yrs before that we have always been able to take either a buck or a doe.

What pee's me off this year, is that if you won this new draw like everyone in my group did, when you go to buy your deer hunting license at the store, and you were picked as a winner, you were asked if you wanted this new doe/buck permit, and if you did, it cost an extra $20. So my deer license cost me $60.87 this year.

$60 Deer License

Ah the government, always thinking ahead!

I hunt in 10 West where I live. Man, do we ever have a LOT of coyotes!

Coincidence??

Cheers,

No one in my group drew any this year, zone 10 east. Last year was another story, 3 out of 6 of us got the antlerless tag. We're seeing alot more bear crap close to camp as well.

What I do not understand, is that my zone(5) always seems to have the most permits offered, yet has the shortest season.(except for zone 1 + 13) Our season ends on the Friday, where as everyone else's ends two days later on the Sunday. Go figure

I'm in zone 6 south. My daughter and myself managed to each get drawn for a female permit. This is the first time that we were both drawn. I have participated in the draw for about 16 years now. It finally came through. We keep joking in our group that we need to staple a $ 20.00 to the form to get drawn.

Good one!:D

I did notice in the past few years an increase in coyote signs in our area. We have always seen plenty of bear poop, but never have spotted one. We always have our small game license, so we can take care of Yotes if we spot one. I've bought my bear license a few years in case one came to feed on my apples, but I'm really starting to wonder if it's worth the extra $$$.

My buddy and I both were drawn for zone 5......:dancingbanana:

I think pretty well everyone who hunts in zone 5 wins lol

Majority of the time at least 95% or more of our gang gets picked.

Two years ago I shot my doe, then seconds later popped the buck as he was running away. LOL called the guys on my two way radio to come help haul out two deer, and they did not believe me that I filled both my tags just like that.

Zone 8 south - both my father and I got one. He already picked his up and the Canadian Tire clerk was adamant that there was no additional, $20 fee. Did they drop it?
