was firing my semi 1919A4 today and i had two different types of stoppages happen. one stoppage was every 5 to 8 rds the round was not extracting from the cloth belt. another stoppage was the bolt would not close fully after firing, causing the round to have the bullet squashed into the casing.any ideas as to why, thanks Rob

i did notice that the rounds that didnt extract when firing were quite hard to remove by hand from the cloth belt. as for tension on the belt,i didnt have any tension on it.

The belts were mass produced and not all were perfect. Is the belt new? Was the belt made for another cartridge case then put into service with the cartridges you're useing? Is the case of the round that failed to extract stained where it was held in the belt?

One thing w1th the 1919 family of weapons, is that the lenght of the cartrige is crucial. If the Overall lenght of the round is too short, when the bolt is coming foward, the extractor will push the round foward without grabbing the base of the cartrige.

Thats why that 1919s, will usually not take hunting rounds. Take one of your rounds and put it on the feeding tray to see if your ammo is compatible.

Have fun

Do you have the correct cartridge stop for the 308? It also sounds as if you headspacing may be a little tight. maybe loosen the barrel a little. I had similar problems I use links. I loosened the headspacing and have very few stopages now.

hi guys thanks for the info. im using 7.62 and im missing the left rear cartridge guide.i have the one up front left and one on the bottom right. i have the head spacing 3 clicks out,i believe that's correct, between 3 & 4 clicks is for 7.62.

No idea on the cloth belt issue, my only experience was with the old C5 7.62mm GMPG, using NATO-spec disintegrating links, and that was a long time ago.
The second problem sounds like headspace to me. Judging headspace by number of clicks in/out is fine if there's no crap in the chamber & you're sure that every dimension is as it should be and everything's fine mechanically. Otherwise, I'd really suggest either sinking a little bit of cash into proper go & no-go headspace gauges, or at least verify your headspace with feeler-gauges.
Hope you sort it all out, I miss those noisy old monsters...
