any 222 remington reloaders out there?

Mine shoots less than half inch (5 shots) with 40 gr v max and imr 4198. It's and old sako vixen. That was 5 shots, flinched on the 5th I was so excited.

The V-max comments puzzle me, since the 50 grainer in my 700 Classic 222 shoots as good as anything I have tried.
It is a 14" twist too.
I'm running it out close to 3200 with Old Reloder 12 or Vihtavuori N133.

Regards, Dave.

My go to triple duece load was 25 grs of Winchester 748 under a 52 gr Sierra MK. That combination in my rifle was . . . inspiring.
Mine loves this load also. I want to try H322 powder that was a favorite with bench shooters. H335, imr 3031 and imr 4198 also work great.

222 Rem as with 233 are so very forgiving to load for. My Sako Varmint shoots bug hole groups with 50 grain Sierra Blitz...20.5 IMR 4198. Been working up loads with VMax40 grain pills as well. Looks very promising too. Remember though, with accurate reloading, brass is very important. I use strictly Lapua brass although plain old rem brass shot very well back in the day. To the OP...you need load data which is very obtainable on any powder web site.

so the rifle i was storing for my FIL just became mine, got a couple hundred pieces of brass i bought a set of dies to start reloading for it, my problem is during a "clean up" the wife doesnt remember where my manual is, & yes i could look the info up but i'd like to hear from guys who've actually done it, so does this sound right:

1.7 case length
2.1 OAL
22gr of powder under a 50gr .224 projectile

thats info i got from my FIL lol

22 gr. of H4198 / 50 gr. bullet is a very hot load. I would not advise that you just load that up and let fly. None of my four .222 rifles will take that much safely.

Eagleye, maybe the problem with my 50 grain v-max loads was I was not pushing them fast enough. I was using 23 grains of IMR 4895. so they were getting pushed out at about 2800-3000 ft/sec. I have since switched to the IMR 4198 which is pushing the bullets faster. the 35 grain v-max bullets are travelling at 3600 ft/sec or more.

Look at my post above yours. That group is 3/8 of an inch with the flyer. My Sako loves them 40 grain Vmax.
