Any 700 5R Milspec results yet!

Well i just had enough time to do the breakin thing and patch between shots, this is he first gun i did not scrub out, I just shot and patched it

Out of the box I left the targets in the garbage only had loads mad up for my Tic tac so i just used them, in the 700.

So really i never shot it for groups yet seriously, but playing around it shot
1.25 moa with patches and not gun specific ammo!

What? No 1/8" groups with Remington Core-Lokt bulk bullets while shooting in 30 mph gusts at 300 yard targets? I'm shocked!....;)

But seriously. Will it shoot 1.25" groups "all day long"?....:p

Finally, an honest individual! Now, was that (3)-shot or (5)-shot groups?

With absolute honesty, I can say for me, with reloads, my 5r is shooting under an inch without a ton of trouble, with many under half an inch. In the hands of a better shooter, perhaps steadily under a half inch. *edit- 5 shot groups, I never do 3shot groups, unless all I have left is three rounds.

It's still a totally stock gun. I've only had it out twice, only to 200m, both times in absolute s**t weather and with a nasty head cold. I don't buy into the break-in theories (I just shoot it), but did use some gun juice.
Still going to play around with loads, but varget with a 175smk is all I've tried thus far, and all I'm likely to try in the near future.
All that being said, I know exactly what you're getting at about the rampant shot-group bs'ing, 2bad. I've heard people talk about their '1/4minute groups' all day long, except it never seems to happen when I'm there... ;)

I like what you're sayin' here. If you tune that combo in to where it delivers consistently good performance, you'll definitely not want to try anything else.

For me, the Sierra's are desireable but unobtainable. No one in the Maritimes stocks them. However, not is ALL lost. I've got Hirsch Precision (Lapua components) only an hour away so hopefully that'll be all my rifle needs to shoot well.

I've got a 154gr. Scenar load where I want to be accuracy wise but the compressed load is leaving "rings" on the bullets from the seating die. If I can obtain similar pressure/accuracy with other powders at slightly less powder charge weights, all will be groovy.

That was a 5 shot group however it was durring a break in period with the barrel!
Was patching between rounds.
I only shot one group at 100 yards durring this time, and it was with my Tikka Tac ammo which was 178 Amax and 46.0 gr of BLC-2 go figure the tikka likes that load and will clover leaf at 100 yards under an inch.

However saying this I have loaded some Varget loads around 43.5 and 175 SKMs in Fed GM brass as well as lapua brass.

The barrel has 50-60 rounds down it now.

I plan on shooting it sunday I will take some photos of teh groups.

2Bad4U on a calm day with no wind and about 20 c out my Tikka will shoot .5s if i can hold it at 100 yards. I shot a 15 shot 3, 5 shot groups avg just at a MOA with this tikka one day, it really is a true inch gun the Tikka tac!

I expect the same out of my 700 5R I hope!!!

They claim Varget and 175 SMKs are the trick for the milspecs set at 2.800 to 2.855 I will try!!

I would be very happy with a tactical gun that would shoot sub MOA group every time, Your right thats a harder thing to do than you think.

My Bench rest 6mm PPC gun will do it, but its rigged and heavy and its a friggin 6 PPC at 100 yards.

But your right when it comes down to it a real 1 nch gun every outing is few and far between

JasonYuke,
Is that 3s or 5s, and is the 1.25 MOA based on 100 yards or a longer distance? I'm brooding over getting a .308 companion for my .300 Police.

Yep 5 shot groups with not specific ammo was pretty good i figured.

I am going to try Varget , RL-15 and 4064 this sunday with 175 SMKs and see

I was In at Willaims Arms today. I was talking to john about the Rem 700 R5 Milspec. John had a customer who was shooting the R5 @ 200M, left John a target to show people what this gun will do @ 200M WOW! Six 5 shot groups and belieive they were all under 1" and 3 of the six groups were like 1/2" Wow! I now want one. If you are in Williams arms ask to see the target. Most accurate factory gun I have ever seen. $1300.00 + TAXES.
I had better start selling one or two.

Well good things to come I hope!

I did not want to let the cat out of the bag! I am a modest guy!

That was my Target! I moved out to 200 yards after the barrel break in! I left that for John because he is getting one he wants to compare, with the load I shot them with!
43.0 grains of varget seated at 2.855 lapua cases, full lenght sized!
Ask John next time you see him! It shot an inch to 1.25 at 200 yards!

Funny thing was the first 25-40 rounds were not that great 1.25 avg!
Was better at 200 yards, but no wind, no sun, perfect shooting conditions.

I went to the range in the morning broke her in, than took it to my dads field where i have a little range built! the next day with 30 shells and a 3 shot fouled barrel!

Ya it shot! but i usually dont shoot that good normaly.
I di dnot keep a copy of that target. But really it seems to shoot as well at 200 as it does at 100! about an honest inch to 1.25 someplace between avg at 100 and 200 yards the target was not that good Tikka your hyping it up!
I will be thrilled if it shoots 1 inch every time out at 100 yards! I think it will but can I ????
Always shoot 5 shot groups

You should, why not. Shooters tend to have an ego problem and only keep the good targets and chuck the bad ones.I always keep all of my targets, the proof is in the pudding, good or bad and keep them in a binder, along with a barrel log at the front of the binder. It keeps you humble and you can track both you and your rifle's performance. We keep hearing about guys shooting 1/4" groups etc... Well I admit I am not that good but can shoot an occasional 1/4" group with 5 rds, not 3 but not on a consistent basis, especially when you take into consideration all of the other factors with the human factor being the most important.

I used to EC but I have so damd many of them now boxes full, and yes they can be used to keep track.
But man the wife gets ugly when you havd a thousand of them from 7-10 years back LOL!!
I see your point!
I have shot some increadable groups but like you say not 3 in a row at 1/4 inch but I do have a few guns luck, skill or just lots of shooting that i have tucked away.
My best group to date was with a savage 112 VLB 22-250 (luck) was whitnessed and signed by a shooter that day tha measured .197 for 5
and 1.98 was done with a 6mm ppc?
But not every time not every day.

If this mispec can fire 20 shots in a row into 4 1 inch groups! thats all I can expect
I will post my pics tommorow but sounds like a windy crappy day !!!

I don't think I'm hyping it up. :p I saw the target! John And I talked about at least two of the groups that were close to 1/2" and I was impressed when john said that they were 200 yard groups:eek:. I think I'm buying one.
Hell ya! JasonYuke great shooting. Wow!

I was a Member at Orono but let my membership laps. I'm Joining the Oshawa club in the new year. 2 Kids in hockey! Always on the go. I'm at the rink 4 to 5 nights a week. Not mutch time for shooting in the winter. Although I have a new Sako 75 Varmint in .260Rem Laminated stainless Fluted that I want to try out. I can only hope my Sako shoots like your Rem 700 Milspec. If not I can always sell and pick one up. If I can find one. I think John still has one in the store. HMMM!:D NICE SHOOTING JASONYUKE.

Tikka.

I did not get the results I wanted today!
1.25s mostly I backed all my OALs to sammi length used varget and RL-15.
Wondering if I have scope issues!!!

Why blame the scope? Was it working fine the last time you were out? Did you damage it in some way? If not, look at some of the other variables. You did mention that you changed the OAL of the cartridges. Why? If it's not the ammo how about the wind, your shhoting technique, ect.?
