Any 700 5R Milspec results yet!

Why blame the scope? Was it working fine the last time you were out? Did you damage it in some way? If not, look at some of the other variables. You did mention that you changed the OAL of the cartridges. Why? If it's not the ammo how about the wind, your shhoting technique, ect.?

Ya I pulled them back off the lands big time, listened to to much advice lol!
will update it next weekend
pull them 20 thou off !
As i said i was shooting my Tikka ammo last week, may have gone the wrong direction!!

And that is what it is 2bad2u!
I just cleaned her up, and listend to closely to some advice about these rifles.
My tikka loads were about 40 th off the lands, and shooting these recomended loads with varget I had them set way to shallow at sammi 2.800 vs theh ogive at 2.950, 15o off th elands!
Oh well i knew better but everyone was caliming it shot so good at 2.800, well it shoots 1 1/4.
Th eother big comlaint i have is the trigger really suck teh big one, its not that adjustable either like th enormal 700 trigger!

Lifes little bad luck situations!!!

Was not the ammo at all , not the loads, or the OAL.

One very sick VXIII 6x20 x40 Target scope sent back out west???
For some god forsaken reason it stopped holding Zero the second last time out, not terrible but it moves!!!!

I really can not believe this scope failed??? it really pisses me off for a 1000.00 plus scope just went for a crap.
We viced the scope solid and started tracking it, I tapped it a few times in bewteen and it was allways off 1/4 to 1/2 when it returned to the click at 0
I noticed this only because i set my bore siter up I wanted to see and draw a map if i ever put a different scope on it. I was convinced it was my loads, but it did not make sence the first outing the gun shot sub moa for a few groups some smaller groups but avg a goo MOA.
I just happened to tap it when i had my bore site (Bushnell) in and i thought it moved so i starter tapping it alot, about every 10th tap it would seem to be in a different spot, So i thougth i can not conclude if it was the scope to the bore site so I took it off for some real testing, threw on a different scope and adjusted it, this one did not move.
So it going out west do the Leupold!

First Lueppy that let me down, but i am glad i noticed this was starting to drive me crazy LOL!
I had some nice 2 inch groups lol!

Sure it's not your rings instead of the scope? It's just another thing to check.

You know i checked them as well, however I took the scope off and brought my prtable soft grip vise up stairs set up a target out the window, and started to track it.
Thats how i confirmed it was the scope...
Also bumped it while tracking it and it never did zero!
I also held it on zero and taped it, fairly hard as if a shot broke and the gun jumped. It would wonder back and forth windage not elevation.
Checked the bases and the rings there good!
I also did the same with a cheeper scope i had that is now on the milspec I had an extra Tasco 6x24 that I tracked and it passed.
I threw it on the milspec just to try out some loads tomorrow, unless we get that 40 cm of snow they are talking about i will be shooting it.

I've had the Leupold "funky group" scope failure twice....It happens.
For some reason Leupold scopes still are able to shoot sub 2 MOA groups when broken???
Every other scope I've had fail just fell to pieces and was unshootable.

Don't be too mad! My Schmidt and Bender packed it in 3 times in 5 years...It is a fairly lengthy experience just to get a S&B fixed and you get to pay the expensive shipping bills!

Ya I wondered what the heck happened the first time out the rifle was great even patching between round and cold bore shots were great!
Last time i took it out i loaded 100 rounds and the all shot between 1 and 1.5 MOA some better some worse..
As you said it held 2 inches even loose! but still it was never abused always on target guns or tactical rifles, Oh well a learning experience...
Its rescoped with a cheepy but planning on fighting the weather tomorrow if its not 50 mph winds, basically loaded up everything i did before and go through load development again !!

I had that happen with a Simmons Mag44 6-20x 44mm and a Winchester m70.
My rifle started vertical stringing on me, everyone was telling me it was my breathing etc. I know when I screw up a shot and I was sure it wasn't my breathing, trigger control etc. So I took it in and had the barrel free floated, and receiver bedded. I take it out and no vertical stringing. But.... the scope isn't tracking right. Then I noticed the crosshairs vibrating. I tried adjusting it an inch to the left and it shot in the same hole as the previous bullet.

When I get my R5 up and running I'm planning on putting a Zeiss Conquest on it. Hopefully it'll be good.

There's no such thing as a scope that won't break, I'm afraid. More money buys you better glass, coatings, and less chance of a dud, but it doesn't eliminate it. - dan
Well Dan I believe you !
I took mine back to Williams and The owner told me there is plenty of high end stuff that goes back optic wise.

LOL the gun when from having some pretty nice head gear to a Tasco varmint 6x24x40mm for the time being. I guess we will see what leupold will do for me?

I was In at Willaims Arms today. I was talking to john about the Rem 700 R5 Milspec. John had a customer who was shooting the R5 @ 200M, left John a target to show people what this gun will do @ 200M WOW! Six 5 shot groups and belieive they were all under 1" and 3 of the six groups were like 1/2" Wow! I now want one. If you are in Williams arms ask to see the target. Most accurate factory gun I have ever seen. $1300.00 + TAXES.
I had better start selling one or two.

Wiliams arms is a great place. I'd drive an hour out of my way to go there instead of B.P. or L.B.. It's the first place I go for my guns and ammo :D.

Wow, those are good groups! Definately something to brag about. I wonder how the gun performs out past 300 yards.

It was the scope! I put a 6x24 Tasco (not great ) on it while my scope was sent out west for repair at 100 m using varget it shot 4, 5 short groups under 1 moa in the pouring rain. What a good feeling!
