Hi All:

I'm looking around at 22LR semi-autos for cheap fun, and I think I'm convinced I want either the Ruger Mk II/III or the 22/45.

I thought about the Norinco Colt Woodsman clone, though.

Anyone have suggestions? Looking for inexpensive but still reasonably reliable, e.g. won't break too often.

Thanks!

Island, don't discount the idea of getting a Ruger MK 1 either. The only real difference between the MK1 & 2 is the slide locking back on the last shot. I own a couple of the MK 1's and find them to be quite accurate. In fact I shot one in the summer games a few years ago and medalled with it. You can find these for usually 200-300 dollars.

For a life time of fun, a little further investment is needed. That say a Rugar is a better investment, either MKII/III or 22/45 is the way to go. Norinco is for people who has a lot of luck.

Ruger MK11/111 Competition model for serious target shooting or the 22/45 for a accurate and very reliable plinker. Mine almost never fails even with cheap ammo and is just as accurate as my Walther GSP.:D

I have a browning buckmark target that I have been extremely happy with. Very reliable and feeds anything. IIRC, picked it up for around $300 used.

Our club uses the Ruger MKII..cannot go wrong with that as well.

Ruger Mark 3 22/45 Its a perfect trainer for a 1911 or USP as they all share same grip angles. Ive got all three. Get the Ruger in Stainless it looks the best.

You cant really go wrong with a ruger, any of the big name 22. autos will do well for you. You should expect to put a lot of milage on your 22, so you might want to spend a little more on it than a norinco, in hindsight, i wish i had spent the extra to get atleast one of mine in stainless.
