Any advice on collecting a mixed bag of third reich non-restricted firearms (besides patience and deep pockets)?

Any book recommendations (beside's Law's Backbone )?

Any advice on price, availability or other things to be watchful of?

Although out of print and a bit dated, I like this book:

The German Rifle by John Walter (1979) - ISBN: 0969048688

Regards,
Badger

That is a great book, lots of pics and information. I bought my copy for $2.00 off of ebay a couple years ago, it was brand new and still in the plastic :dancingbanana: .

Theres lots of stuff out there for sale, you just need to focus in on what you want to collect, or else you'll get real broke real fast. What exactly are you looking to collect, handguns, or rifles? As for handguns, you get a little more for your money imho, in terms of choice, with the p.38's, nazi marked HP's, cz and polish pistols.

rifles are more expensive, all matching k98k's are going up in price almost daily due to demand, but you can get quite lucky if you know what your looking for, and where to look ofcourse.

I was thinking along the lines of K98s and K43s.

I'm just looking for a few books to use as a guide to increase my knowledge while I save for a purchase.

Mitchells may be insanly overpriced but you can just call them up and get an
SS mauser. Their tanker mauser is kindoff cool as well. I am interested in WW2
knives and other gear and what I would like to do before the prices get crazy is to buy one decent WW2 issue rifle from each major combatant country.
One mauser,a mosin, an ariska and a garand and of course an Enfield.
As long as it has an uncut stock and a good bore I would be happy.
It would be nice to have a mauser with swatikas or an ariska with a crys
but the prices of those have gotten way out of my price range and really it is
the gun itself and the history and people behind it that is important to me.
A danish garand might be a good buy becuse I don't think they can import them to the US. Since I am dreaming I would like a sykes fairbain and SS officers dagger to put on a plaque over my imaginary WW2 gun rack.

Has anyone actually imported a Mitchell's Mauser from the USA into Canada?

Post your pics if you have.

I can't see why anyone would import one from them with their reputation!

Yup, all the markings nice and crisp, since they where only put there when you ordered it! (hey joe! what do I stamp on this war capture? Another Deaths Head? )

I would be more than happy to act as a sales agent on your behalf. Locating pieces in prime condition and thoroughly testing them to make sure they pass my rigorous standards before turning them over to you. All I ask is one guy to reload 8mm 40 hours a week. :D

The only advice I can give is get another job. And ask lot of questions on here.
