Any C8 fans? Post 'em here!

My other WIP. Originally I wanted to swap out the barrel for a 11.6" but the more I hold it, the more I love this configuration. From what I was told it is a first gen IUR with no CC or Diemaco markings. Sitting on my NEA FDE lower.

Here are my clones of the CAF-issued C8 carbines that I carried in combat overseas in Afghanistan. The first is an unfired C8 "Pencil Barrel" surplus Upper Receiver on an unfired CC Lower Receiver and internals, circa 9/11/2001 (I landed in Kandahar on 31 Jan 02). The only mod I made to that carbine for my first tour in Kandahar was the addition of a "Redi-Mag" spare mag holder on the Left Side of the Magazine Well. A great piece of kit for the AR-based gunfighter! The Buttstock was a handy place to keep a Wound Dressing as we wore 82 Pattern Web Gear on that tour with no storage for Dressings.

My second "Tour Rifle" benefitted from the many burgeoning advances in the AR-15 accessory market circa 2007/08. Magpul was just coming onto the scene, nd I had 10x Gen 1 PMags delivered directly to me in theatre where they functioned 100%. I outfitted my issued carbine with all of the latest Magpul Furniture, a Knights's Armament Company Railed Handguard (RAS), another Redi-Mag, and a personal Trijicon TR24 low-power variable optic in a Larue Mount. I was issued a PEQ2A Commander's Infra-Red Laser Designator and Spotlight as well as an Insite MX-6 White Light (with IR Filter). This clone is based on a Colt Canada SA15.7, which is the civilian copy of the C8 Flat-Top Heavy-Barrel (C8 FTHB - the successor to the C8 Special Forces Weapon).

I think it's great you were able to replicate your tour rifles. I just barely missed out on the surplus C8 uppers and I wanted to make a build out of one of them. I carried one very briefly and I've coveted it ever since.

Yeah, me too! Now, we will see whether or not the government will allow me to keep them in my well-deserved retirement...

C8 fan in Tennessee! Found this set of factory Desert Tan Diemaco furniture locally while not looking for it and the rest is history. Still looking for the receiver end plate and the BCG is on the way. I also added the dreaded ambi CH shortly after the pic was taken. Will eventually add an M3X light. Not a perfect clone, but not bad considering the rarity of the parts in the US.
