I've been trying to find an "Ultimate Cliploader". This is a plastic gizmo that will reload Ruger .22 auto pistol clips in a couple of seconds.

A guy posted a video of it in use on YouTube, here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=65jHazxWXCA. It's fun to watch all those rounds feed in that easily.

There was one for sale in the EE before I was a member here, but I've not found any source for them so far. I even went so far as to write to the manufacturer in the U.S., but received no response. I guess they can't be bothered.

Does anyone have any info on a Canadian distributor for these?

Just order from Brownell's. Great service and hassle free shipping for these sorts of items.

I just bought a Ruger Mark ll, so one of these is going on my next order!

Yep, they work very well. I find that after a while some of my Ruger mags get gummed up a bit with wax from the cartridges, and they don't slide down into the mag very well when loading. Brake cleaner does a pretty good job getting rid of the wax buildup.

Also, if he mags are "tight" or even slightly bent, the rounds don't slide into the mags very well. The loader depends on gravity and a free fall of the rounds into the mag. It was a little frustrating at first until I figured out what the loader did and didn't like.

Ruger Mk. I and Ultimate Cliploader - work together?

OK. Received a PM from Hoser-eh, who has some for sale in the EE.

Now what I need to find out is if anyone has used one with Ruger Mk. I magazines? SnakeNeil put one up for sale a few months back, and mentioned the Mk. I in connection with it, but I'm wondering if anyone else can tell me definitely if these things work with a Mk. I.

If not, may just have to run out and find a Mk. II... :D

These will not work with the MKI because the button on the mag follower will not work. I ordered mine direct from Zaliznok Industries in the US. Google them, as I may not have the spelling right. I have been using one since last year, and it's great. It will save the cost of a bunch of extra mags, so it pays for itself right now.

Shucks and other comments.... Thanks for the info.
Looks like I won't be needing that Ultimate Cliploader just yet.

Guess I'll have to make a thumb-thingee and settle for that until such time as I get a Ruger Mk. II.

Either that, or magically fabricate an Ultimate Cliploader clone that will work on a Mk I. LOL :runaway:

I have seen square plastic mag loaders which work for all Ruger .22 mags. They consist of a plastic square with a thumb tab. You slide the thing over the mag, it engages the stud on the mag follower and you just push it down and load the mag. I saw some at Pullen's in Victoria about a year ago, selling for about $5 each. If you like, I'll ask John Pullen about them next time I drop in.

Thanks for the offer, Geoff. I'll call around to a few of the Edmonton stores first- let your fingers do the walking, & all that.

I've seen these black plastic thumb-savers f/s on the internet - not the Ultimate Cliploader, but still waaaayyyy easier on the fingers.

UPDATE: I was able to make one of these with a scrap of MDF and a couple of hand tools. Took 5 minutes. Works very well, & easy on the hand.

1 scrap piece MDF, 3'' long, 1" wide, 3/4" thick
1 3/8" drill bit
1 wood chisel
1 narrow flat file

Drilled two holes in the MDF, 5/8" apart on centers, on the centerline of the smooth side of the MDF.
Chiseled out the MDF between the holes. Smoothed flat insides with file.

Done.

More Info on Mk. I and Ultimate Cliploader

Well, in the interests of completeness, I'm posting what I've learned over the last couple of days, just in case anyone else should need the info. Some of it will not be news to some of you, of course.

It seems that the Ruger Mk.I Target was manufactured in two different frame versions. The earlier frame is the A-74, and it is distinguished by, among other things, magazines that have a mag follower button on the right-hand side of the magazine. The later frame, the A-100 frame, uses magazines with the mag follower button on the left side. The Mk. II uses the same layout.

I also was able to do a side-by-side comparison of one of the magazines from my Mk.I with a magazine from a Ruger Mk.II Target model. They appear to be identical.

I was not able to find a magazine for an A-74 frame, so I cannot say if there are any differences in the Mk.I A-74 magazines vs. the Mk.I A-100 magazines other than the location of the follower button.

Some aftermarket magazines for the Mk.I have a button which can be moved from right to left, which suggests that the mags are otherwise similar enough to fit and work in either model.

So, as far as the Ultimate Cliploader and the Ruger Mk. I pistol magazine is concerned, whether it will work or not appears to depend on which frame model the pistol has, and hence which type of magazine.

So perhaps I'll give one a try after all...:D

There is info on the net about converting a MKI into a MKII
Can't put my finger on where i saw it,but it is out there.

Ultimate Cliploader works - with minor modification

Well, it just shows to go ya.

My Ultimate Cliploader arrived Thursday from Quebec (thanks Hoser-eh for the great service :)). As predicted, it did not work with the Mk. I magazines "out of the box". However, it was apparent (thank God these things are made of transparent plastic) that the fit issue was minor, and it was just a whisker away from working.

Taking Dremel in hand, I enlarged the notch that engages the mag follower button and slightly changed the angle of the adjusting screw that controls depth. A little experimentation and adjustment with the modified mag-depth screw, and with the bullet-retainer spring-screw, then it worked just like the video!

Some hot-melt glue blobbed over my kludge secures everything in place (after carving out the notch the adjusting screw was a bit wobbly) and it works just fine.

This mod is not "reversible", and is a bit ugly, but should I ever acquire a Mk. II, the mags can be accomodated by changing to a different size of adjusting screw.

To forestall "This Thread Is Useless Without Pictures", I will be posting some close-up pics of the modification as soon as I can borrow a digital camera. :runaway:

One thing I noticed during testing is that a little spray of lube over the ammo, as recommended in the instruction sheet, makes operation much smoother. This is particulartly true with the Federal blue bulk-pack ammo, which seemed quite "sticky" in the loader. The CCI standard I tried didn't really need it.

So, I've now answered my own question. Will the Ultimate Cliploader work with a Ruger Mk. I? If it has an A-100 frame, the answer is "yes, with a very minor adjustment". :D

Now, to go and burn up some ammo :sniper:

You can't win that easily. The internet is full of idiots and wannabe comedians. I happen to be both and I don't have a Ruger pistol soooo....

:D I'm glad it all worked out for you though.
