i am curious if any of you CGN are shooting the No.4 rifle with the L type sight, i believe the settings are 300 and 600 yds, ive' never shot a No.4 with this type of sight,my No.4's have the adjustable sight, so id' be interested in your input, also have you had to change the front sight to tighten up the groups. Thanks guys:)

The 300yd sight is regulated to the same point of impact as the adjustable sight in its "down" position. The 600yd site shoots very high and is just about useless for most reasonable ranges for the average person. The L sight is quite good for what it's intended for. Like any rifle you have to learn to shoot it well, but it shouldn't be any different than your normal battle sight. bearhunter

I have read that British and Canadian troops who were issued the No.4 were envious of the SMLE rifle that the Aussies retained ,mainly because they were not happy with the "L" sight as compared to the fully adjustable sight on the SMLE.{ the Aussies never did switch over to the No.4 rifle, still used it in the Korean War}.I think the aperature sight on the No.4 is great for snap shooting and target work

If I recall the L site was used with the bayonet fixed to lower the point of impact for shooting at ranges less than 300 yd. Try fixing the bayonet and aiming on at 100yd.
