Any chance of seeing 5.45x39?

Jeez you just dont get it? Why is the cost of 223 going up? Because the dollar is tanking....simple as that. So how the tanking dollar going to offset the importation costs of this magical cheap 5.45x39? Hint, Its not!

It's an option, with the rising cost of even cheap .223 (MFS. For example) if we can get 5.45 for cheaper why not invest in a bolt and barrel?

The 7n6 was really cheap though. Half the price of x39. $120usd/2160rds. Usually military case was 2160rds. Before the ban it was going for $165 CDN/2160rds, and that is using todays exchange rate.
So maybe it still is cheaper than x39?

.233 Started jumping way before our dollar tanked bud.

like Steiner said, even with our exchange rate now, crates of 2160 are still cheaper then an equivalent case of .233

That said,Can CanAm chime in with what they could possibly get 5.45 for?

From the other importers I've talked too(not CanAm,haven't heard back from you guys)container loads are available, price tag is dependent on the exchange rate at the time.

If there's an a price difference of even 5-10 per case(1080) rounds over .223 or 7.62x39,of happily use 5.45 over .233 or 7.62x39,especially in AR's with the hit or miss reliability of x39 AR's

CanAm,I've sent a couple emails asking for pricing on this ammo on your next order ,any chance of a reply?
my reply on pricing is above.

If Zastava made the M85 "Mini Mauser" in 5.45x39 I would be all over that, up, down, left, and right. Most would be interested in a S/A platform, but I'm always going to be different.

Ya, i know. Our market is too small to justify production as they'd never get enough market penetration due to the AK74... I'm just hating

That said... if the AR and non-restricted XCR, Tavor, etc was available in 5.45, with a steady stream of surplus incoming, it'd be an easy sell

I'd drop dime on an XCR in 5.45 if ammo was available in surplus. And an AR upper for sure!

I wouldn't drop more than 2k on a NR 5.45 semi-auto. If you want to sell the ammo, the rifle has to be affordable, which neither the XCR or TAVOR are.

Can we stop asking for somthing to come first when we already have that which we are asking for XCR has a conversion as well as ar15 other companies can make or import barrels for ar's and hopefully there will be other options down the road . For now can someone just get a damn import for 7n6 so we can get this ball rolling for crying out loud
You will *never* sell a container load of ammo relying on XCR owner alone. AR is out of the question as not NR, and thus ultra limited.

Regardless, if this ammo becomes available in surplus, i'd buy a bunch either way. That way when a firearm, or a conversion kit, or whatever becomes available, I'll already have a ton of ammo for it! So...Get the ammo and you know I'll buy a case...or 10

If it was in the price range of x39 or cheaper I'd buy some and either buy or build a gun to use it. Options are good. I like the idea of an AR chambered in 5.45.

All vendors are sold out of surplus x39 ammo......going rate was $200/1000rds. Lets say 5.45 would be $250-275/1000rds?
If 5.45 was available at this price, it would be well worth converting an AR to this caliber.....and if you don't want to convert, just buy an AR in this caliber right off the hop.:)

The overwhelming majority of firearms that accept 5.45 are AKs, which are prohibited in Canada. Why any of you guys would want 5.45 when the only guns that take it that we can have are 5.45 conversion ARs, which exist only because of the supply of ammo in the US because of the AKs there, is beyond me.

It depends on how much you shoot. If you go through a few cases of 5.56mm a year, cost isn't too bad. If you shoot more, cheaper ammo adds up quick.
There is a fellow here on CGN that has put 15,000 rds of x39 through his XCR in 2yrs. Can you imagine what 15k rds of 5.56mm would cost..yikes!:p

For many fellows, now that cheap Norince 5.56mm is gone, it hurts more to shoot the AR's.
5.45 would bring the good times back!:)

This is exactly my point of view as well. I'm really hoping on a 5.45 version of the mutant in the future.

I cant believe all the dummies on this thread trying to justify
Why importers should not be bringing in another surplus caliber.

We are the ones who will be shooting it and they will be the ones selling it.
I think they can make that decision on there own.

How about a sks 5.45x39 conversion. Could just be a new barrel but would have to look at the bolt and mag since the cases are slightly different

My opinion is that the primary attraction for the SKS is the fact that it's dirt cheap. Assuming that it's only the barrel that needs to changed (which I guarantee isnt the case), it already prices itself out of my interest.

That said, cheap 5.45 would actually encourage me to put an AR together.

5.45 is very plentiful and is roughly what we are paying now for surplus 7.62,and after shooting a 5.45 and 7.62x25 AR conversion,I'm sold on those.but right now the only problem I'm running into (other then the lack of 5.45 in Canada)is the manufacturers aren't registered with the US state department for export .
