Any crow hunters here?

Yeah Crow hunter here, RATS WITH WINGS!!!! They are very hard to get close to..If you have a .22LR that works good. I use my old pellet gun most of the time (headshots) they don't always die with one shot but most of the time they do.

There smart little bastards, I'v only killed one I got it with a .22 and a scope it took 2 shots however, I'm not the greatest marksman yet :p , still learning.

Im going to go out with the FX3 this weekend and try and call a few of the buggers in. there is some info HEREon hunting crows on this web site

i used to shoot them lots. Best is to put out a big pile of dog food, for a day, they somehow always find it. Go the next day in the same area, and start calling using jack rabbit or cottontail distress calls. This will bring them in, as well as magpies, sometimes other predator bird, so be careful.

Crow decoys help quite a bit too.

I hunt them with a mouth call. I never have any luck on damp wet days to or on windy days. I can call them in up to three times even after shooting at them but each time they are higher. Move away from the area you called after you shoot and find different crows, they will know the game and stay high out of range. I like to see them in trees, the field or hear them and set up in a nearby bush, standing corn near a bush works best later in the summer for cover. When you shoot a crow place it out in a field at your next spot, don't let them see you set up. You need camo and lots of cover and keep trying until learn how to get them. The best time is when the young are born and start to leave the nest or when crows are chasing an owl in the bush. I never had much luck with owl or crow decoys.

You bet. Do your part for conservation, kill a crow & save ++++ gamebirds !
Build a good hide/blind of natural materials, owl decoy up high, with a few crow decoys lower down ( leave the dead ones below the owl ... makes them crazy ) Use a good electronic call - but don't over call ! Supplement with a mout call. Location is everything. Heavy (3dr.) trap loads of 7-1/2s work good, and even better - any old # 5 or #6 lead duck loads you want to dispose of. Invest in a book about it, or try and find one in the library by the old master Bert Popowski. What he didn't know about crow hunting isn't worth knowing ! Most of all - just get out there and do it ! - Enjoyable, and another season of "wing-shooting" with NO LIMIT !

We took a couple shots at one last week. It came to eat the gophers we had just shot. It saw us move and took off. Of course we both missed!

I have shot a few, never really put much effort into it, I just get em when they make a mistake... Like fly over looking down at the pointers with the beeper collars on... ha ha ha... They sure are easy targets then, low and slow...

Cheers
Jay
P.S. Ducks Unlimited says that you save 110 ducks EVERY time you shoot a crow that lives in a duck nesting area... SHOOT EM ALL!!!

When I used to spend more time at it, I thought it a poor year if I did't get at least 75 of the bastards. Usually ambush shooting in open fields--long range challenge, especially if its windy.

i got really into it this year. what i found worked best is set up an crow call there was some owl thrown in there at the beggining. so set up your caller with this tape and we always put the speaker with the direction of wind. try to find a good area with a decent crow population. make sure you are camoed fairly well. i only wore my face mask first time out and havent taken it again. i find #4's work best out of my 870 which only shoots 2 3/4 inch shells. our best day was when three of us went out and shot 96 crows in an afternoon/evening shoot. you should always set yourself up with the wind blowing at your back so the crows come into you nice and slow fighting the wind giving you the best shot opportunity. you can always drive the back roads with a .22 looking for crows in a cut corn field as well.
hope this is helpful

Bait em, use bread chunks in the trees, or throw one back in the tree up high, they`ll come to give it crap and you pick afew more off.. ;) I had it said that use side pork slabs hanging would do it as well... I`ve sniped about 10 so far right from where I sit right now, and two magpies..:) 204 does a real number on them:D

Is there anything to do with crows? I know that crow busters has some recipies but does anyone here actually eat them?
