Any Customized M1 Garands out there??

Yes you're right
I can't argue with that.
I should quantify that it is easy to find a beater. But why would anyone want a beater? Anyhow I'm in the same boat. Living in a rural area I don't really have access to direct sales. Its all caveat emptor for me - purchase and mail. You never really know what you're going to get so I prefer to buy pieces in excellent condition and pay the premium dollar for it.

But it is difficult to obtain, because of that. Too difficult for me to obtain, at least. I'd consider one as a hunting rifle if I could afford it, and I'd set it up along the lines of Northman999's, but while everyone selling an M1 wants to believe it's a rare collectible, one might as well get a Browning BAR.

I found this info about Tanker conversions...only a good idea if they're set up by an expert that knows what they're doing apparently.

Other than the advantage of having 8 rounds would not a M-305 make a better
basis for a short handy semiauto than a Garand? I guess if you had to have 8 30-06 rounds handy.Maybe you live in the arctic and have a medical condition that makes you smell like an injured seal?

Actually that is probably a good reason for all you Norinco haters out there to be thankful for the M-305, think of all the Garrads that have been saved from bubbas hands because the M-305 was cheaper and eats .308?

AB69:

IIRC, the Tanker barrels are around 18.5" long. Nice short compact package.

My customized M1 Garand has a new Boyd's stockset in Walnut stained (you guessed it... walnut). AND I will swap the .30-06 barrel out this spring for a .398 barrel. I like the .308 cartridge !! :nest:

Otherwise, that's about all I want to customize with my M1 (Postwar) Garand...

Peace be to journey

If someone is willing to host my pics via email please, I have not bad photos of my .308 T-26 copy, scout scope mount, cheesy black ramline stock. (too light for this rifle action IMO) Smith Enterprize muzzle brake/18.5 inch barrel, Leupold 2.5 scope.

Cheers.....
