Hey, folks.

I have a Browning Safari in .243. Lovely rifle, had it since I was a kid. The ancient scope atop it has finally gone milky. Looking for a good scope that matches the gun.

Plenty out there in matte black, coyote brown, brushed silver, etc. but I'm having a beotch of a time finding anything in gloss black.

Ideas?

Used Leupold VXII or thereabouts, I had an 'Anniversary Edition' in 2-7x33(?) beauty gloss finish on a Ruger #1 in 243. Please never use matte rings on a gloss scope, someone needs to take this very seriously!

I'd keep an eye out on the ee for an older Leupold or B&L, or a Redfield. They all made them, shouldn't be too hard to find one. I'll look in my scope box, might have something there. - dan

Send the scope to phill at trace optic repairs he should be able to fix it for you!
I just got a sightron SII in gloss finish(still in the mail) but from the pictures I got it looks like a nice scope!

Thanks, guys - I appreciate you taking the time to respond. Gotta backburner this for a bit, but every one of your recommendations is sound. Rebuild may or may not be an option - the existing scope is Japanese, but a bit of an off-brand. A used Leupold is certainly a good idea, more so considering the cost of a new one. I'm particularly liking the selection at Intersurplus....

The backburner is a good place for this right now and not to be in a rush.

There is a bit of demand these days for gloss scopes for vintage rifles. I, as you, think that a new matte scope doesn't look eight on an older vintage gloss rifle. Best to be patient and start watching the EE and other sources for used items. Something will show up in time.

One gloss scope I use is the Bushnell Scopechief VI. I have two and have liked them without issue for quite a while. They can be had in 4x fixed, 1.5-4.5, 2.5-8 and 3-9. Not expensive but good scopes.
