I'm not at all an Airsoft person and am wondering if there are any accurate MP5 replicas (dimensionally, not colour wise) out there that I could use as a basis for a project?

Thanks,
Mark

More details on the project? How accurate do the dimensions need to be? Some of the high quality airsoft guns will take real accessories, and are very close dimensionally.

Airsoft are suppose to be 1:1 replica of the real thing.

All airsoft? Or is that a brand?

Well, I was thinking of buying one for measurements and then trying to work up a new receiver that uses 10/22 components for the function. Not a clamshell cover over a 10/22 receiver, but a custom receiver with stock 10/22 components inside it.

How will you do that ? out of metal ?
Legally ... are you allowed to make a brand new receiver ? thats where the registration number is stamped on.

..

Try the Classic Army MP5 series. last i heard, they were 1:1 scale replicas. They are also full metal and have the best "polymer" in the airsoft industry.

Yes, it would be a new receiver to replace the Ruger part. Probably machined from aluminum, grade to be determined. 6061 is cheap and common, but machines like garbage, while 7075 is more expensive and less common, but is significantly higher strength and easier to work with on a mill.

Yes, it is legal to make my own receiver, I just have to deal with the RCMP techs and get a new FRT number assigned as it will become a new firearm in their eyes. There are a number of CGN members that have made their own guns or new receivers and made it through the system OK.

I know that everyone will bash me for saying this but...
The Henry AR7 rifle would be way to easier to install into that type of design.
WoW this post just gave me a great idea. Although the Ruger would be more reliable. I can even see a way to even use the charging rod to function on the AR7 platform.
Oh HO!!!
Were can we get 1 of these fake firearms from???

But once the RCMP actually see it, won't they exclude it as a "variant" of Mp-5, the same way the GSG .22 is?

They won't import the full metal MP5's into canada due to the "replica" laws now anyway. However. You want some info on what is out there Airsoft Canada is a good forum with tons of info. The new canadian legal airsoft is a clear or smoked lower plasic reciever. You will never get a tokio mauri type MP5 into the country without customs seizing it at the border. I used to be into all of this years back.

Great so I guess I won't be making this after all. The last thing I need to do is get banned like the last time I made a FN P90 in 22LR. Then I had latter figured out that it was ilegal and had to distroy the $200 stock and never mind the 10 hours it took to make. Ah well cool idea though.
