I just got a legacy gun from my father in law. A nice savage 99f. To my understanding rings are hard to get. Came with these flip over but not off weaver rings. Scope is fubar...retical broke after 20 rounds or so. Now I have a nice VX-2 waiting for it. Just wondering if hunting for new rings is needed. Any input would be appreciated. Shoots well with open sights.

As long as the hinges on them are tight, what's not to like?
Beats the bahjeezus out of those see through rings or as sometimes
they are refered to as suitcase handles.
Dad's old Schultz had them on there and I got talked into taking
them off along with the irons.
One day I will restore the old boy's idea back on there.
Of all the things I have done in the past, pulling those sights and rings
was a foolish move on my part.

I would use them.

I have two Browing BAR rifles that I bought in the mid 70's They both have the Weaver Tip Off Mounts, never a problem here, just check
the pivot screws from time to time if your in the habit of swinging the scope over. I was never one for tipping the scope over but my dad did it a lot hunting in the thicker woods.
Like kamlooky said.............I would use them....I see no down sides.'

I have two Mod. 70 Winchesters from the '50s, a 270 and a 30-06, both have Weaver pivot mounts and retain virtually perfect zero when moved over and back.
Actually they retain a better zero than any of my other rifles with much newer, modern QD ring sets.
