As the title says, anyone have any experience with the 224 Valkyrie version of the WS-MCR? Are there many in the wild? The .223 version is currently the best substitute for an AR that's out there and it got me thinking it would be cool to build one that's more suited to medium-long range. Was originally thinking 6mm ARC but I don't see a Grendel bolt being available any time soon so figured a 224 Valkyrie would be a decent substitute. If my experience with the .223 version is indicative, the factory barrel would potentially be accurate enough and worst case, it would be easy enough to get a barrel done up for it.

If you can't find the WS-MCR in Valkyrie, in late June to mid July, Sylvestre Sporting Goods in Bonneyville, Alberta will start distributing the Jard J180. Although they will initially importing complete rifles in .223, they will eventually be importing factory rifles in .350 Legend, 6 mm ARC, .204 Ruger, and 6.5 Grendel.

If you want to build your own, they will be importing build kits, with two kinds of bolts, allowing the following calibres:

.223 / 5.56
.204 Ruger
.350 Legend

As much as I'm interested/intrigued by the Jard J180, I'm not really looking to step into another platform, at this time. We'll see once they've been available for a bit but I'm not huge on being an early adopter. I am quite pleased with my WS-MCR however, hence wanting one in a more long range capable caliber (than .223). If I can't find a Valkyrie, I might get a WS in 7.62x39 and put a 6ARC barrel on that. I'm not too sure on whether that's the same bolt face or not though? I've been getting lost in the whole Grendel type 1 vs type 2 thing...

Fair enough.

For the J180, the 7.62x39 mm and 6 mm ARC share the same bolt face. Perhaps someone at Xtreme, Spectre LTD or Wolverine can tell you if they've tried 6mm ARC with the 7.62x39 mm bolt? Also, remember by you will need a barrel with a carbine length gas port, unless a third party releases longer WK/MCR pistons in the interim. ATRS or IBI should be able to make a 6 mm ARC barrel with a carbine length gas port, though it may be pricy.

Yeah, the barrel isn't the stumbling block for me. I wondered about the 7.62x39 vs Grendel/ARC bolt thing when I saw that Jard used the same bolt for them. My understanding is that Grendel's originally used x39 bolts (those were the "Type 1s") but apparently they failed so the Type 2 came to be. The 6mm ARC is patterned on the Type 2, I believe. As to how much real world difference it makes, I have zero idea.
