Hello fellow .223 rifle owners,

It is great that there are 10-round LAR type mags for the .223.

I have noticed that there are metal 10-round mags, but also that Cross makes a polymer/plastic mag, whereby 2 can be joined together end-to-end.

Just looking for some feedback and comments on the Cross polymer mags from wise and experienced shooters.

How well do the Cross mag work?

- do they feed well?

- are they robust (especially the mag lips)?

- will they stand the test of time?

Thanks for any feedback!

Some people swear by metal mags but polymer (including cross mags) have been fine for me.

My polymer mags feed well / are robust / and have stood the test of time.

Please note I have metal mags too. In theory they *may* be easier to damage (dent) if dropped on a hard surface being metal and heavier, having said that I have had no issues with mine.

I have two pairs of the Gen 1 Cross mags that i use with my MRA Renegade for shooting 3-Gun competitions in Michigan and Ontario. Since my Renegade does not have the bolt hold-open (Gen 1 Renegade) I specifically went looking for the Gen 1 Cross mags, as the follower will allow me to dump my firearm with an open chamber.

The four (2 pairs) I have feed well - never an issue with many hundreds of handloads. My mag lips are still good, even though they are dropped on the ground (usually dirt/grass but sometimes gravel) every time I change magazines.

I like the fact they can be joined together, so technically I start with a double in my rifle, and one pair on my belt. If I know the stage involves shooting from the prone position I detach them so I don't have issues with my magazine in the dirt (American's with their 30 round AR magazines are, to me, at a slight disadvantage when prone, as shooting under barriers may be more difficult with the long/tall magazines. Of course, shooting a bolt action vs a semi is a big disadvantage but hey, all for fun!).

YMMV. I would definitely buy another pair of Gen 1 Cross magazines if I saw them listed at a fair (to me) price.

I’ve got two gen 1 cross mag sets and they work fine in my bolt action 223 but for some reason they won’t feed properly in my type97 semi, they work fine in my buddy’s wk180 semi tho

I’ve got no issues using polymer mags or metal, for some reason the only metal mags that feed properly in my t97 are Lar mags and the only polymer ones that don’t feed are my cross mags but I imagine it’s different for each rifle

With my SU-16 my first pair ran fine. Second one was locking the bolt open or double feeding. Spray in a small shot of Balistol and it was solved.

I do worry about dropping them on hard ground when they are likely to land plastic feed lips first. But I will do it anyways until one of them brakes. So far so good.

I've got a number of Cross Mags and have used them without problems in Ruger Americans, WS-MCRs and Tavor 21s and Tavor X-95s. I've also used them in WK-180 but sometimes they over insert slightly but as it happens to other magazines in that rifle too I am going to say it's more of a rifle thing than magazine thing.

After 250K rounds of .223 fired using Cross mags, I think they are pretty good.

This is all very helpful! Thanks!

......we all hate spending money on something that does not stand up to expectations......:)

Sounds like Cross mags are good to go!

Gatehouse, you've fired 250,000 rounds of .223?? How in gods name did you find the time and money for that?!
