Just wondering if anyone came across any good deals on a suitable case for transporting a new AR today? I'm on a fairly limited budged... if you had to buy a reasonable rifle case legal for transporting a restricted in Canada, what would you recommend? I'm a newbie to AR rifles, so any tips and good advise is appreciated. What should I be looking at?

A black plastic hard case from WalMart will meet the regulations with locks, if that's all you're after. I own quite a few of them.

If you want to splurge a Pelican, they can be ordered for a little over half of usual retail prices from a place in Ottawa.

Cabela's regularly puts their house brand "Armor Xtreme" cases on sale for 20ish % off. I bought one for my FNAR, and it's surprisingly nice for what it costs. Like this one if your AR is under 38" OAL, or this one if it's over 38".

Amazon had a pretty good sale on Pelican cases for boxing day; I picked up a 1400 case for less than half price. I think that's over though, and the rifle sized pelican cases go up significantly in price from the pistol sized cases.

Also,

The only sales I saw were on illegal transport cases

Lol

For those that missed the sarcasm/joking and actually want an explanation now:

As it's written it just needs to be in a lockable, opaque container. Literally it just needs to be something that you put your firearm in, that you can't see through, that lets you use some kind of lock on the only way into the container.

A soft gun bag with zippers that you can lock together with a $2 padlock from the dollar store is OK.

A water-sealed, air-pressurization equalization, crush-resistant, polymer-constructed, foam-padded, handle-and-roller equipped Pelican case with four reinforced padlocks in it is also OK.

Pick whatever you want that isn't see-through and is lockable.

I saw Pelican cases on sale on Amazon.ca as well.

But air transportable shouldn't really be in lockable soft case. If not for the knockaround damage.

I picked up a double "rifle" double pistol soft shell case for $55.99 in March 2015, not sure if you can still get them... I used mine for airsoft at the time, and now for 22 rifles and 22/9mm handguns woth a cable lock.

If it ever comes back in stock, grab it!

If not, there's an ~$80 voodoo tactical bag nearlyidemtical in design (a couple differences perhaps) on the canadian amazon.ca. $72 after exchange rate today isn't really worth it on amazon.com, and it may not ship to Canada...

For hard cases, I highly recommend Canadiantire house brand cases.

it goes on sale twice a year for ~40% off. They're manufactured by Plano, are similar tl Pelican models, but cheaper. Has pluck-away foam inserts to custom fit your firearms/accessories, built in locks, check'em out instore first.

I use mine to transport my Savage FCSS116 and a buddy's browning AB3 (both scoped) hunting rifles last season, the wheels make it extra easy too.
