Just in the process of completing all my requirements in the handgun section of my club. We use the clubs pistols but I would like to buy my own very shortly. In the past, has boxing day madness branched out to the gun world or would I see the same current prices? I will be starting off with a 22lr or 9mm.

"...has boxing day madness branched out..." Mostly not. Retailing firearms is different than retailing other stuff. Buyers at the assorted distributors usually only buy once a year and don't have anywhere near the market up clothing sellers do. Firearms aren't made in third world sweat shops for ten cents on the dollar either.
"...22lr or 9mm..." Far less expensive to start with a .22. Mind you, a good .22 target pistol will run close to a grand. Entry level .22's don't run that high though.
