I need a really good gunsmith here in GTA.
Please Forward me any info.
Cheers.

I see it all the time with lots of threads. Why the abbreviations? Is it too much hassle to type a few more letters or are abbreviations the correct thing to do today?

GTA?

WTF IS GTA?

I see your location is set to "Vancouver Island, B.C.", which is an abbreviation. So, I guess you're just cranky today then? :)

Not cranky. It is just a pain in the ass trying to read some threads and make sense of them. I just don't understand all the "unusual" abbreviations. I believe the standard accepted abbreviations (like provinces) and some gun related ones like "mag" or "Rem" or "Win" make sense.

It is when sl are substituted for cw that sgotw and it baboap.

Or to put it in sensible text:
It is when single letters are substituted for complete words that sense goes out the window and it becomes a bit of a puzzle.

Well I live in the "GTA" (hate to admit this though) and Dennis makes a valid and kinda funny point! Part of our problem is that we -- in the GTA --- periodically become self obsessed to the point where we forget that Canada is a pretty large place with lots of folks that don't know .. or give "SFA" for our little acronyms... personally I am happy that there are fellow Canadians that don't know what GTA stands for... it tells me that some folks have escaped our particular little hell of traffic and 2+ hour commutes, crime, high cost of housing and dangerous schools. With any luck they still enjoy what Canada was always meant to be....which I seem to have forgotten for the moment in light of the BS coming out of Ottawa. AP

"GTA" A term invented by idle media types. I believe it was invented by the Toronto Sun. Lets them lump Metro TO and all the bed room communities together.
Smithies? If Kitchener isn't too far, there's a smithy at Shooter's Choice in Waterloo.

I guess the expression "T-dot" is out of the question then :D

Only for text-messaging wannabees..... Real SMS users, use Blackberrys. :p

While not a true smith, I have a good friend that is a proto-typing engineer. He's a CNC master machinist. If its simple stuff, PM me and I'll send you his contact info.

I think everyone can understand accepted official abreviations for provinces. I just don't understand all the "unusual" one letter abbreviations.

For instance:
It is when sl are substituted for cw that sgotw and it baboap.

Or to put it in sensible text:
It is when single letters are substituted for complete words that sense goes out the window and it becomes a bit of a puzzle.

But this thread is kind of highjacked now....... sorry.
