Inherited this piece .308 cal Steiner with german mauser action, any ideas on what it would be worth? Thinking of selling but don't want to get hooped again like I did with another piece that a dealer got a hold of and I found out later that it was worth 3 times what he gave me................... Oh well , live and learn! :kickInTheNuts:

steiner

Does it say "Steiner" anywhere else on the metal? Looks like a 50's or 60's sporter 98 with an aftermarket Fajen maple stock on it. Based on your pics, condition of bluing shown, etc, I'd say you have a $300-$325 rifle, throw in the scope for a few more bucks, probably $350-$375 total depending upon caliber, bore condition and headspacing (high end pricing). With a new Stevens model 200selling for $339 with a warranty, yours is probably worth under $300 on the board. Just my two cents of course.

Nice piece of lumber,it does look like a sporterized mauser. The barrel doesn't say sportco does it?If there are no stampings as to manufacture on barrel it is probably under front scope base. And even though the stevens is a really good price it does not have the classic appeal of a mauser in wood. The right buyer may pay as much as 450 IMO.

I never heard of a Steiner made/sporterized rifle? As other members said, looks like a sporter mauser with an aftermarket stock. I don't think it's a big dollar rifle. If I were you I'd take it to the range a try it at 100 yards. If it shoots a nice tight group, then it's better to keep the gun yourself for hunting.

I agree. I would be nice to see some of the markings on the metal. Can you take some so we can help you out a bit better.?

What was Bubba using on that trigger guard screw? Trying to take it off with a Robertson? That's just brutal.
