Just curious what people think could be accomplished by building a bench gun using a heavy barreled Mark II savage action. Has anyone reworked one? I have had good luck thus far with my Mako, but was wondering if I built a bench rest stock, pillar and glass bedded the action, added a trigger kit and maybe a tuner, what do you think I could get out of it for accuracy? Would I actually be making a better rifle, or just dressing up a daily driver so to speak. These things shoot great out of the box, but do you believe they welcome improvments like those I have mentioned, or am I aiming too high with expectations. There have been guys on other forums doing great things with their Mark II rifles, I was just thinking maybe taking things a step further and see where I end up. Would appreciate any input on what you think. This is something I have been pondering for a while. Hoping to hear from a gunsmith that might have tried what I am thinking of doing.
