Just after the turn of the 20th century Hartford Arms in Connecticut began producing some interesting .22rf handguns - single-shot and semi-auto variations (1925-1947). I recently found a couple of the S-As languishing in a gun shop up in Alaska and added them to my little herd for a very reasonable price. According to best sources there were only 5,000 (+/-) of the semi-autos produced.
I got to thinking that if some made it all the way to Alaska and still survive, then there is a good probability that some of them may still reside in Canada. They were the forerunner of the High Standard line of handguns and were very popular among the professional Trappers of that era.
Anyone know of any Hartfords which might be available? I especially am looking for the non-gun items associated with them such as original boxes, instructions sheets, advertisements, etc.
They look similar to the HS Mdl. B, the Fiala Model 1920, and fairly close to the old Colt Woodsman. Below is a picture of one for comparison. I would like to hear from anyone who may have a lead on one of these guns (or more). Thanks in advance. mauser
Yes, there IS a place for all of God's creatures: right next to the potatoes and gravy.
