Just like the FAL, i'm heartbroken. Would love a Century C93, or 91 clone, but I'm guessing - that like pitbulls - if they look anything like one, they're done.

Would that be a safe statement, or would someone like to keep my dream alive?

Also, what are some other cool rifles that we can get -- something that i've missed?

If you want something in .308 there are M1A/m305s

If you're lusting over an HK 91, I believe the closest thing you can own (assuming you don't have a 12.x license) is an HK SL7:

They were originally made with 17.7" barrels (restricted), but a Canadian-import version with a 19" barrel was made. The SL7 is chambered in .308 and its brother SL6 in .223. Both are based on the same roller-lock delayed blowback action as the HK91/93 and sport the same HK drum battle sights.

If you look hard enough, or have the $$$ to entice someone to part with one, they are available. I only learned about them last spring, but since then have managed to acquire 2 SL7s and an SL6.

This is probably one of those 'if you have to ask, you can't afford it' situations.

With the SL6/SL7, there are just so few of them that show up for sale that it's hard to say what the "market" price is. It really comes down to how much you'd be willing to offer and then putting out feelers to see if you can lure one out. You can get a hint for pricing from Gun Broker, since there are a lot more down in the States, but you also have to keep in mind that the non-restricted Canadian versions would be at a premium. What really adds up with these rifles are the accessories: the HK05 quick detach scope mount is $400+ and magazines are ~$100 - $175.

Another gauge for pricing is to look at the sporting versions: the HK 630 and 770. I've never seen a 630, but I've seen a couple 770s pass through dealers and a couple on the EE --- in every case, they sold quickly anywhere between $1100 - $1300 in fair to good condition.

Here's one of my favourite pictures of an SL7 (note mine):

And IIRC, the SL6/SL7 are still being sold in Europe. Parts are limited in North America, although Numrich does stock quite a few. Fortunately, parts and magazines are still readily available in Europe, and without the export hassles of the US.

As a curiousity, it turns out some of the SL6 are made with a 2-shot burst; also, note this model has a factory flash hider:

I recently took one of my SL7's apart to replace a component and was impressed by the build quality. In particular, the inletting on the wood stock was perfect and finished as smooth as glass... conspicuous attention to detail. I've not found any pictorials on taking down these rifles, so I'm going to put one together and will post it to this forum.
