hi,

anyone know any link where i can find information on converting a mosin sniper?

i currently have a pu scope mount and a babba'ed mosin. i'm looking information on where to put the mount on the rifle and how to drill and tap.

thx!

A good spot to try is surplusrifle.com. The guy there has two articles about modding a Mosin into a sniper.

The more classic looking one is available: HERE.

Or if you wanna go a bit more modern, THIS one mounts for a Dragunov-style scope.

If the screws for the mount are originals, or a copy of originals, they are 6Mx0.75 and use a 5.25mm drill.

There is some good info on the mount and scope here http://www.mosinnagant.net/sniper%20section/mosin-nagant-sighting.asp

I have measured several snipers trying to find an exact location to drill the screw/pin holes and all of them have been slightly different. Your best bet is to look at pictures of different rifles and do several mock-ups on your rifle to find the best location. Keep in mind that with a new mount the scope will be off the centerline of the rifle, this is adjusted by filing the tabs on the mount.

Don't waste your time Bubba! Buy one of these and have the real deal! They are easily imported to Canada using an import service that costs anywhere between $75 and $200. It may seem pricey, but the finished product will certainly be worth more than your homemade creation.

This is the guy you want to pay attention to when it comes to mosin repro sniper builds.

trust me on that :p

So does anyone feel like buying an ex-sniper mosin? I know where to get a deal on importing multiple guns. Interested? PM me!

Restoring an old sniper is not always as easy as drilling and tapping new holes in another rifle.

Some of the welds used on the cut off screws and pins do not drill out that easily and you run the risk of the bit wandering, screwing the whole thing up. There is also no guarantee that the restored holes will line up properly with your base.

I have had to re-weld and drill several ex-snipers that people have tried to restore and buggered up.
If the rifle is already a bubba, as stated in the first post, it is less work to put the scope on it, than refurbing a decommissioned sniper.

the kalinka PU STYLE scopes dont fit an original mount /rings they are modern /western diamentions. i also messaged them and they confirmed same, :dancingbanana:
unless you get a new /repro mount kalinka wont fit.
but
lots of original /post war scopes /mounts on ebay or by other sources /dealers.
OK?

How good are those Kalinka optics? I'd like to consider making a Mosin sniper.
