Any members of Toronto International Trap & Skeet Club?

I want opinions on whether you would recommend this club?

What are the good and bad points of this club?

How receptive and accomodating is this club to new Trap/Skeet shooters?

T.I.T.S. ... gee, who would ever remember a name like that ???

It's "Toronto" - based, they throw "International" targets,
We go there to shoot "Trap" & "Skeet".
(Sporting & 5-Stand were introduced later ! )

Chiseled in big letters right into the stonework over the front door of the clubhouse. It is what it is. So what's the problem ?

Yeah, Leary shoots there on ocassion, so does Paul Shaw.
( As far as I can recall, neither were on the original Board of Directors)

I enjoy shooting there, and have for many years. Their 5-Stand
is an awesome set-up, with some very challenging targets. And
International Trap is a real challenge for those who haven't tried it.
 
Hey Beretta Boy, thanks for the info and insight. I guess for Ben, SS, and GK, saying I shoot at the T.I.T.S. Club may be a bit weird. :D

How are they to new shooters to the sport(s)?

I also heard that there is an 'old boys club' that originated since the club's beginning and they tend to be a tad snotty to anyone who does not belong to their clique. Have you ever experienced being a second class member because of this group?

Thanks again and if the Club is my choice, hopefully we get a chance to shoot on the same squad someday.
 
My experiance is that the Club is like almost every other ... and yes, there tends to be a group of "old-hands" ... also just like any other Club that's been around for a while.

Snotty ? No, can't say that ... and I've noticed that either.
Probably the most diverse mix of clay target shooters as I've seen at any Club ... ... and I think that's great.

The International Trap "specialists" ( and there are quite a few), those who frequent the trench on a regular basis, may seem a little "cool" at first ... until you realize they're busting their tails to keep their concentration up. Most are dead-serious about their game - and are working hard out there to improve. They don't say much and are pretty quiet ... 'cause the traps are voice-activated ! Once away from the line they're pretty nice folks !

Good place to see the latest O/U's from Beretta, Perazzi & Kreigoff !

And like most Club's, they tend to be very welcoming of any volunteer help
to clean-up, load targets, etc. All too shooters these days just show-up to pay their fee, shoot their targets and leave. Just who does all that behind- the-scenes work to make any Club a nice place to shoot anyways ????

Speaking on behalf of all clubs.... you hit the nail on the head with this one. If you want to 'fit in' to a club sooner than later, ask what you can do to help.

Ya what a name its something when you pull in the parking lot and you see T.I.T.S. on the chiminey lol.

Ive shot there since I was a young kid. i even used to pull the targets once in a while before the voice activated traps.

Been to a few other clubs and like stated above if you volunteer you will fit in great if you mess around thats an other story. Great club and im not saying this cause im realted to a founding memeber of the club.
 
I belonged to the Toronto Trap and Skeet Club out by Pearson Airport before it was forced to move. Some of the guys from the TITSC also belonged to that club and were "invested" members. When Pearson "forced" the sale of the property to the airport, the guys from TITSC created some very unnecessary hassle from what I gather. I was not an "invested" member, so I was not privy to the details. But there was considerable animosity between the two groups even to the point of law suits being threatened. I moved away from the GTA before the club was moved. But based on what I heard, I would be very wary about joining the TITSC club if these Old Boys are still there. They were mostly guys from the old country and tried to suck every penny they could out of the Toronto club over the move.
As you can well imagine, the Pearson people were not about to take no for an answer since they could have simply expropriated the land.
One "funny" situation though. Prior to the move, the airport constructed a taxi lane from one of the large warehouse bldgs (FedEx I think) that was built right next to the club along the fence line with us. It seems that one of the skeet fields was close enough to the fence line with the airport that with wind drift and angle of shot, some pellets occasionally would land harmlessly on the construction workers. We had a few visits from the cops over this but nothing came of it since we eventually shut down that field.
The other surprising thing is that just after 9/11 nobody from the airport ever visited our club to my knowledge. The club's location adjacent to the fence line of the airport provided an easy place from which to target incoming or outgoing flights. struck me as a real security risk. From time to time we would see some idiots from the general public access the area and actually take their 4X4's up on the top of the back berm to view the airplane traffic even while we were shooting. They were trespassing and so were told in no uncertain terms to GTHO and not come back. But some people are just so stupid.

...it is a "premium" club with great facilities, Ed. I heartily recommend it. If you meet up with George, Paul or Orazio, tell 'em that Syracuse Steve sent you.......heh,heh................
 
Soooooo here's the opinion of a "NEW" member. I joined the club begining of 2007 summer. I visited the club at the end of 2006 and felt a little like an outsider. I looked around....went into the club house.....back out to the field. I was just about to leave and one of the members came up to me and asked if he could help. "I'm new to shotguns. I've been shooting handguns at an indoor club for a couple of years and am very curious to give this a try." Didn't take the guy long to take me over to his car....pull out one of several shotguns in the trunk (pump action). He grabs a box of shells and proceeds to give me a 20 minute instructional session before taking me to the line and letting me give it a try. I felt like an 8 year old at Christmas......SOOOOOO COOL. I went out the next week and bought myself a shotgun. I didn't get a chance to get back there till spring of '07. I joined the club on my first visit and can't say enough about it. I don't think my experience is a unique one as I have witnessed several occasions where new guys come in and are welcomed.

As a side bar.....the math is easy to do. If you live within reasonable distance of the club and plan to shoot fairly often.......

Non Members pay $8.00 for a round of 5 stand.

Members pay $5.00 for a round of 5 stand.

Based on 5 rounds of 5 stand per visit (my personal average)

$15.00 savings per visit if your a member ($3.00 per round X 5)

Membership was $175.00 in 2007 (don't know if it will go up or not)

Go shoot 11.66666666 times and your membership is FREE and you've helped out the club by contributing financially.

I'm deffinetly joining again.....see you all in 2008

Definitely will check it out. BTW the 2008 membership is up to $185/year and still not too bad.

What are the hours during the summer as I noticed that T.I.T.S.C. is only open on the weekends over the winter months?
 
I must say that TITS is one of the friendliest, open, and fun atmospheres you can find at a gun club. Everyone there enjoys the sport and is more than willing to chat with you. There is always a field open (because they have so many) and the 5-stand is just amazing.

I highly recommend it and try to get there whenever I can!
