For those of you who do not know me, my name is Wayne Huber. There are a number of us who have been developing some unused space at the Bear Hills range to shoot the discipline known as Cowboy Action Shooting. We also belong to a non-profit organization called the Saskatchewan Association of Wild West Shooters. Just run it through Google if you are interested.
For the last 3 seasons, we have been holding sanctioned events and have had a good relationship with the club while regulating ourselves under a gentlemen's agreement where we hold memberships and can therefore hold shoots as members. We have been erecting facilities and maintain the site at our own expense and effort.
Recently there has for some reason been an unknown source of friction with certain members of the club. President Jim Vancha had pressed me for a "terms of use agreement." So I drafted one and sent it to him. He countered by agreeing to my stipulations - which was simply a written version of our understanding - with an fairly unreasonable set of demands. One of which involves monetary compensation to the BHGC/BWF with no guarantee of stability or tangible benefit.
While the group of us do not object to a "lease" as it was called, the consensus is that this amounts to nothing more than extortion and was also labelled as a "privilege" which would leave us completely under their thumb with little to no room to operate. Furthermore, we were given an abnormally small amount of time to comply (31 April 2014) before being forced out by order of the executive committee - less than 14 days.
Now we have invested heavily out of our own pockets and would hate to leave this beautiful range, and take with us the amenities we have installed. With our leaving it would also take up to around 12 members not counting the shooters who contacted me regarding membership that I told to hold off until this gets sorted out. It should be pointed out that the trap shooters of the club are not being subject to this treatment to the best of my knowledge.
If you would like to know more. please contact me at waterboyseven@hotmail.com and I can connect you with contact info and the correspondence between all parties involved.
