My goal this year is to fill my tag doing a spot n stalk with muzzleloader using iron sights. I'm taking a week in October for a back pack trip in the mountins. Should be pretty interesting.

Anyone elce here plan to use a muzzleloader this year?

I'm definitely doing some bunny bustin' with a muzzleloading shotgun. I plan on using it for grouse and pheasant too. Just finishing making a bunch of paper cartridges for field use.

I don't know if I'll get a front-stuffer out for big game or not.

muzzleloading

i know im in diff province, but we all here on cgn are from the same family, lol, of course ill have my black powder guns out, i hunt with a thompson 50 cal, as well as some old sxs english muzz loading shotguns with twist barrels, really fun, also shoot cartridge black powder shotguns, waiting for my french musket to arrive, its a 20 gauge smoothbore gun, flintlock, will hunt with it, usuing patch ball and shot charges

I have muzzloader hunt planned for whitetail in Saskatchewan. Its been about ten years since I have hunted with a muzzloader. I retired the old Hawken and got a new TC encore this year. I cant wait!

I have had more luck with my front loaders than with regular rifles. I have an old
Traditions Deerhunter with 9 notches on its stock. 50 cal with 385 gr Hornady great plains lead bullet on top of 100 gr of Pyrodox and a # 11 cap. Just lately put a low power scope on it.

Our ML white tail season starts a month or so early, so i will be out with my "new to me" .54 cal. traditional ML with iron sights. I use a pure lead cast 450 gr. "Plains bullet" and 80 grs. of FFG real black powder and it hits where I point, most of the time...

Spot and stalk with irons is exciting and challenging. It would just feel wrong if I wasn't out there with a muzzleloader. I think it's more fun than "rifle season". There are less poachers out there as well.

I just got posted to CFB Suffield and that will be one of the parts to my job now. Hunting poachers.

The thing im looking forward to getting away from this year is how quick the season ends. With a scoped high power rifle I never spot n stalk. I see the deer and drop it. I had a really exciting bow hunt once but I think personally ill always be a fan of knock down power after that.

Pretty much this will be my first dedicated spot n stalk hunt. Thats why im also taking a week in the bush because I know ill have mistakes to learn from. I feel the muzzleloader is going to be the perfect weapon to use for this new to me kind of hunting.

excited for this adventure forsure.

I picked up a TC Impact a while ago that I have no even had the chance to fire :( , and if I do not get a buck during rifle season I will be out there with the Impact . Season here starts only in the middle of Nov.

This year and every year!! Next to the compound bow, it's my favourite hunt!!! Especially since this year I'll be shootin' with my new TC Prohunter... Been waiting a few years to get one and finally had the cash and opportunity a few months ago... Good luck
