Any news on QBZ-97?

I know that in their infinite wisdom, the RCMP decided that it can be easily converted into firing full auto after only 9 weeks of work by 50 qualified gunsmiths and decided to prohibit it. It looks like a fun little STANAG-compatible poodle-shooter, receiving mostly positive reviews and I'd love to eventually buy one and take it to the range. The lower end of the "AR" price tag is a bonus.

I know that the owners an the importers are in the middle of a lawsuit that also borders on other issues, so I just wanted to check if anyone had any news on the topic. Does anyone have any info on the progress?

Its Type 97A NOT QBZ-85
QBZ-95 is the 5.8mm PLA uses its considered a machine gun by US, UK, CDN, Germany, and probably every country in the world.

Type 97 is the case

Last check 48/50 people handed over the gun and the last two are having a bitter fight. CANARM screwed themselves over 1.2k rifles which will probably hit the smelters.

Thanks or the info guys.

That's why I was inquiring about 97 and not 95.. Even with a more liberal (less restrictive, that is) legal status, I sincerely doubt that the 5.8mm ammo would be readily and affordably available here. 5.56 is and it's reasonably cheap to shoot. Still, if I ever visit China, I hope to give 5.8mm a shot (pun intended). Heard good things about it.

But, yikes, what an idiocy. Just like them being hardheaded on the AK platform, banning anything from Saiga 12 to air rifles. I won't bug CanAm unless they wanna chime in here (seen them around on the forums). I was hoping it would be more general knowledge than that.

I read recently they are still tied up in court but are optimistic.

good things take time.

Good to hear and thanks for the update. Next paycheque, instead of donating to an open source software project, I'll donate for this cause. I'm hoping for a broader decision, making the RCMP less capable of arbitrarily prohibiting firearms behind closed doors.

I put my name on the waiting list for one and donated to the fund so I hope we see them soon:)

Hope someone gives the RCMP a smack in the back of the head over what they did on this one. Reading the specs there is nothing about it that even makes it restricted.
Any semi-auto can be made full-auto by someone that knows what they are doing. It takes intent and 99.9% of us are content just to have something cool and fun as it came from the factory (+ a couple bolt-ons to make it our own)
What they did was like saying they are going to ban cars because they are capable of speeding if someone wanted to. Or blaming alcohol for drunk drivers.
What they need to to is ban criminals then the rest of us could enjoy a little freedom.
