Any non-prohibited FN-FAL style semi-autos?

I'm sorry to display my ignorance about this, but I'm trying to confirm whether or not it is possible for a non-grandfathered person such as myself to legally purchase a semi-automatic only rifle chambered in .308WIN that looks like one of those beautiful FN-FAL battle rifles? I know the government website says "The firearm of the design commonly known as the FN-FAL (FN-LAR) rifle, and any variant or modified version of it" is prohibited, but it says nothing at all about, say, a C1A1. (Strangely, the M-16 family is only restricted, not prohibited! ) Are there no "copies" of this rifle that are technically speaking not of the FN-FAL "design" but look like it, and that are semi-auto only without the possibility of conversion to full auto (I have no use for full auto!)? There's no urgency to my question, but I am thinking ahead to what I'd like in my collection...

...thanks for any light you might shed on my query.

If you have no use for full auto you've never shot one, better than ###, well quicker anyways. Hopefully full auto shoots will return to Alberta. You can't touch an FN/FAL unfortunatly if your not grandfathered. I've got five plus a dewat ishapore on the wall, great guns.

Nope. C1A1's are semi-auto only and are prohibted as FAL variants. As are all FAL variants. M-16's are FA and are prohibited too. AR-15's are restricted.
Don't try to apply logic to any of the gun laws. It'll give you brain damage.

If you've got three grand lying around, theres this option.....

The FN-49 is non-restricted. Pricey though, for a milsurp anyway. If it were down around the price of a Garand or SVT-40 I'd own one.

Seen the price of Garands in the EE lately? It's not hard to find a FN-49 that's no more than, or cheaper than a good Garand or SVT.

Good point:D That why I don't have one of thoes yet either. If I could get an FN, decent shooter, for $450~$500 I'd have it.

The FN-49 looks real nice, but I think if I was going 8mm Mauser I'd just get a K98 (which I plan to do) and for a .30-06SPRG I'd prefer a Garand (even if it's as pricey)...

Huh, I am in Edmonton (but never been to Lock & Load before), so maybe I'll go check it out. Thanks! (But single-shot? :()

My FN-49 in 8mm was $500 last year. They seem to be listing in the $450-600 range.

There was a few converted to 308. This would be one sweet rifle in that caliber.
DaveGP sold a 7X57mm recently at $350 if I believe. I damn near cried when I saw that as I had already committed on a m1 carbine a few days before. I'm really happy with my purchase but the FN will always be the one that got away. heres a link you might enjoy.
