Any opinions on a used Anschütz/CIL 180?

I was thinking of getting one of these as a cheap practice target rifle mainly for my kids to sharpen up on for the junior rifle club. Has anyone here used one? I heard they are accurate but quite light for a target gun.

Depends what kind of deal you can make on it.
They are good, accurate guns. Probably a bit light for offhand for an adult but it would be just right for young people. They are an Anschutz 64 action although I have heard that they were made cheaper for CIL - specially the trigger.

A lot of these were club guns so pay attention to the condition - shoot it first if you can, check the barrel for bulges and the bore carefully.
In my opinion they are not worth a lot of money but a lot of sellers disagree - they ask way too much. It's a middle of the road single shot, not a high end target gun. Don't fall for the line I've heard a hundred times "the sights alone are worth $300". Rather than pay the big bucks for a 180, I'd buy a Winchester 69 or Remington 513.

I have one with open sights shoots very nice. I also have a model 2000 with the good sights it's awesome my 180 is worth about 150 I paid 450 for my 2000

Yup, I agree with Slash. I owned one of these a couple years back. I paid $150.00 for the identical rifle, in a private sale. Functioned well, accuracy was very good, but not great. The chamber on mine did'nt like CCI ammo, it was a tight fit. Just as Slash said I've seen a few dealers ask $300.00 + for these;inspect carefully, mine was used as a club gun, but still had a very good bore. I've got an old Cooey Sureshot that I paid $50.00 for that out shot it (better groups). Depending on the price, you can find other rifles that will shoot just as well or better, that have parts that are more readily available.
