Has anyone heard if there are going to be any precision matches with the ORA this year? Also, has anyone received their 2017-2018 membership card yet? Nothing yet on the ORA website or in the mail so far.

Same here, no information, no new card. I missed the AGM, out of the country. I had an email earlier in the year that precision/sniper matches were going to happen...that's it.

Yes, I believe there are 6 or 7 Precision matches scheduled at Amiens. Borden dates were just confirmed today.
I received my membership card at the AGM so I would think they should be in the mail?

OK, good to know. I'll just have to continue to be patient I guess. It would nice if we could a little more advance notice so we can plan our summer shoots but it is what it is.

I just received the dates today. We will post up in the next 24 hours. Sorry for the delay, didn't want to release dates before final confirmation. First date is May 21st at Amiens. We have a total of 7 dates.
Have a few new COFs in mind that will take you out of your comfort zone and make you better shooters. We are also trying to get access to an artillery range at Borden that has out to 1000 yards, should know more about this soon.

Guess Mons is still closed, 3rd year in a row.

Me and my buddy just became 1st time members of the ORA. I don't see any events on the website....

Is there a direct link as to where we can find out this information?

Thanks

Jeff

They're always a bit slow. The schedule is normally posted on their website just before their spring magazine issue comes out. The precision schedule is posted right here on the CGN site in the stickies at the top of this section.

Awesome, thanks for that, I just checked it out. Not overly familiar with the different shooting techniques yet but we are used to shooting off a bench out to 300 yards. Is there a discipline out of the ones mentioned that some would consider a bit easier then others? Being our first time and all I'd like to take the first event and learn as well as shoot, I also wouldn't want to piss other members off by showing up and not knowing what's expected....

Thanks :)

Jeff

You can go to www.dcra.ca, Service Conditions section, and view the course of fire for NSCC. Precision Rifle matches are described in detail.

Basically, 200 to 500 matches are snap shooting, 2 shots per exposure at 200, single shots per exposure at 300 to 500, movers at 400. Deliberate at 600.

I read the general course of fire as posted in the Sticky by emeyer3. When you show up to compete do you do everything listed under the general course of fire or do you just choose a specific yardage and focus on that?

Sorry for the questions but our orientation day was cancelled last year so I don't know what to expect

Thanks

Jeff

All shooting is prone. Matches are shot in sequence, starting at 200. Shoot with a partner. Change around after you've shot a match. The partner spots for the shooter. A good spotter makes a huge difference. Needs a decent spotting scope. Usually a relay shoots at 200 and 300, then rotates to the butts. It makes things easier if you have solid elevations. Limited sighters. Because 200 through 500 are snaps, you need to be able to get on target fast, and fire a clean shot. At 200, 8 seconds per two shots. 300, 3 second exposures. 400, six second movers. 500, three second exposures. Get your shots off quickly, it takes almost a second for your bullet to get there. Your spotter will be watching the wind and giving suggestions. The butts control the pace of the matches through 500. At 600, there is a fixed period of time for both shooters to fire two sighters and 10 on score. If the butts are well managed, things run smoothly.

That sounds awesome! Thank you for the very detailed description, exactly what I was looking for. Hopefully we can make the first event in May, if so I may have another question or 2 but for the most part your description answered all my questions.

Thanks again.

Signed up for the May 21 PR Clinic 60-64, what is a PR Clinic 60-64 and how much ammo should we show up with?

Probably sounds goofy for those with experience but I have no idea....

Thanks

The numbers are the standard matches from the NSCC rule book. You can get it from the DCRA website
60 200 m rapid follow up
61 300 m agony snap
62 400 m mover
63 500 m targets of opportunity
64 600 m one shot - one kill
65 700 m selective fire
66 800 m harassing fire
67 400 m plates
68 the snipers match
I usually take 100 rounds and always bring some home.
